Whorling
Determined to get to the end of the path, you head on until you come too... a CLEARING! You groan resignedly. What a surprise. You rub your head unhappily and wonder if you can petition for a new forest layout.
You nervously venture into the clearing. What new creature will you encounter here? You don't have to wait long before you find out. A quick glance to your left reveals a low, snake-like black tail waving around from under some bushes. Intrigued, but doubtful all the same, you carefully part the foliage...

You jump back, terrified, when a blood-red eye glares back at you. You stare at the hedge shakily as a long head, long neck, and finally a very large dragon emerge. You are frozen to the spot, able to do naught but stand there.
It glares at you malevolantly and swishes its tail while you stare at it. It's a moment before you realize what it's doing--it seems to be waiting for an explanation of some kind. It looks almost like a teacher when her pupil has just misbehaved. Again.
You struggle with yourself and start to stammer something out, though you still don't know what it's going to be. "I-I... Uh... Want-ted to..."
You sigh in relief as you are saved from trying to justify your actions. You're not exactly sure what saved you, but you're free, all the same.
The dragon turns his head and pokes a back claw into the bushes. A moment later it pulls out another form--one that looks like it could even be his son. Actually, it probably was his son.
It's a young stocky dragon who looks like he could be the school bully. If he went to school, that is. He straightens out and smooths down, striking a "slick" pose. The first dragon looks witheringly at you, then rustles out of the clearing. He hadn't spoken once.
To your surprise, the calico-colored dragon slumps into a relaxed position the moment the first leaves. "Hi!" he says brightly.

You look at him more closely, startled by the carefree behavior. "You... You aren't anything like him, are you?" By "him", you mean the black dragon--the one that had just left.
He shrugs and looks away. "I guess not. I think it comes from my Hunter Cat side."
"Your mother-- a Hunter Cat?" you ask incredulously.
"Well, not exactly my mother. If you wanted to use those terms, I guess it would just be, 'my other parent.' Both of my parents were male. It's called Ultimate Fusion, I think--where DNA's taken from two creatures and merged."
You struggle with this concept, but don't get very far. "Okay... okay. Okay. I've got it. But then why don't you look like a Hunter Cat? Didn't you get anything from your... erm... second father?"
"My personality, as I've said. Plus these wings and my calico pattern. Then my legs, my ears, and--look--I'm furry."
You're about to comment on that, but he continues.
"My behavior isn't all from my Hunter Cat side, though. There's another dragon here that helped to raise me. Since my dragon-dad--well, his name is Baunchley, really--is always out hunting, she's the one that taught me my behavior. We can go see her, if you like."
You remember something suddenly, and say, "Wait!" When he stops, you tell him, "I just wanted to apologize--when you came out, I thought you were... well... really snobbish, I guess."
He surprises you then--his expression becomes one of glee. "That's great!" he exclaims enthusiastically.
You raise a brow.
He looks sheepish for a moment. "It's just that my dragon-dad seems to expect me to be mean, and all that. I try to please him--he's actually kind've nice, if you get to know him." He sees your hopeful look and adds, "it takes a lot to get to know him. Anyway, c'mon!" And he leads you away to another clearing. How many could there be in this forest? Sheesh.

Standing in the middle of the circle, wings flared, is a purple dragon. Heh... she didn't look so nice to you.
When you appear, her head snaps around, glowing eyes narrowing. "Why have you brought an intruder, Sarasakure?" she hisses. Sarasakure? It must be your dragon companion.
Sarasakure, as you know him now, seems unperturbed. "I thought it might like to meet you," he comments. You restrain yourself from commenting on the rude "it" that found itself into his sentence.
She sighs, and an almost motherly expressiong replaces the malevolent look on her face. "I'm sorry if he's caused you any trouble... I am Shiden. If it's all the same to you, I'd prefer you not stay that long." She casts a meaningful glance at Sarasakure.
You smile briefly. "I don't mind." Actually, you would leave now rather gladly.
Unfortunately, your speaking almost covers up the slight rustle of leaves. Somehow, Shiden hears it. She peers in its direction briefly before whispering, "Shoo! Shoo!" at you and Sarasa.
Sarasakure's look becomes one of somebody caught red-handed. "Gotta go!" he whispers, and darts off into the trees.
But you've already done the same.
