Ren� started to compete in 1997 in the Dutch Indoor Kart championship. It was the first contact with motorsports, and a good way to learn the basics of speed. During the two years that he competed in these races, he reached several outstanding results.
In 1999, when Ren� moved to Spain, he started to race with racekarts (100 cc and 125 cc). Especially in the 125 class, he learned a lot about high power control and driving on the limit with gear shifting.
In 2002 Ren� got the opportunity to join a circuit racing school in the United States. It was a very interesting experience for him, as it gave him the possibility to race with high performance race cars.
Ren� started to compete in rally�s in 2004 with a Peugeot 205 in the Open Catalan championship. That year he scored surprising results, like during the Ripoll�s rally, where under heavy rain conditions he reached 5th overall ranking. 2005 had a great start for Ren�, with a first place in the class and a 6th overall ranking.
During 2005 Ren� switched the Peugeot for a more competitive Citroen Saxo. The 2006 season started spectecular by winning a rally and leading the championship! Later that year Ren� had a high speed crash that ended his title hopes. |
