| "CSI:NY" was the show that truly catapulted Vanessa onto our psyche. She landed a part in the second spin-off from the phenominally successful "CSI:Crime Scene Investigation", starring opposite such heavy-weights as Gary Sinise and Melina Kanakaredes. Her character, Aiden Burn, was said to be the 'chameleon' of the team, able to shift roles easily to fit the situation. Although we were given very few details of Aiden's background, we were privy to the fact that she's a Brooklyn girl and grew up with older brothers and a father, no mention of her mother. Also said to make a 'phenom' Chicken Parmesian. Aiden specialised in facial reconstructions and skeletal identification. Ironically, such a skill was needed on Aiden herself when, in Season 2's 'Heroes' [2.23], Aiden was brutally beaten and burned by a scorned criminal. She risked her career to capture the serial rapist D.J. Pratt, which resulted in her being terminated from the team. But she ultimately risked her life to get the guy, and was fatally wounded. Not before securing enough evidence for Mac and the team to prosecute Pratt once and for all. |
| "CSI:NY" is not without it's ships. The show has maybe the most faithful fans I have ever had the pleasure of joining in song, whether for Mac/Stella, Danny/Aiden, Flack/Aiden... For Aiden, a relationship with Danny was the most popular. Some are unsure whether the extremely close friendship the two held was purely best friends/siblings, or something more. The Season 1 episode 'Hush' [1.16] is much herelded and worshipped within the fandom for exploring the somewhat saucier side the ship, with both parties bantering on sexual preferences and propositions. Danny and Aiden had always shown a comfortable presence around eachother, and were always there to reign eachother in when with suspects. Even after Aiden's departure, they maintained a good friendship, as Danny talked about in 'Heroes'. And it was Danny who was the most visably upset about Aiden's death and vowing revenge on the perp. Det. Don Flack has quite a large fanbase with Aiden also, with favoured scenes being the "Benzosothyazolonal" speech from 'Tri-Borough' [1.11] and the motorbike scene from 'What You See Is What You See' [1.23]. Lets face it, how could you resist a tall, dark, blue-eyed New Yorker on a motorbike?! |
