Splinters
- A shallow splinter (can be seen end-to-end just under skin) can be removed by rubbing a pumice stone gently over the affected area. The stone will abrade the area and brush the splinter out. Don't overdo it or you'll push the splinter in deeper.
- For a deeper splinter, take a pair of tweezers and swab with rubbing alcohol to sterilize. Very, very gently pull the splinter out. Apply ice beforehand to numb the skin and make it less painful.
- Don't pick at a splinter or use a safety pin to try to get it out - they are not sterile and can make the splinter go in deeper as well as damage the skin and lead to infection.
