- Wash hair with neem leaves in boiling water or weak salt water to prevent and stop hair fall
- Dont overcondition. it makes hair brittle.
- Don't overbrush hair, and don't comb or pull hair when wet.
- Take your B's. B vitamins help prevent graying and keep hair strong and healthy.
- Hair conditioner: lemon juice concentrate diluted 50% with water is the
best hair conditioner! It even eliminates dandruff.
- Lice: to get rid of them, use a medicated shampoo, but the most helpful thing is to comb and comb and comb some more. A really really fine toothed comb must be used to remove and then crush them (between fingernails or something hard, or place them in soapy water and flush). Remove eggs and tiny nits because these give rise to the new lice. One remedy is to cover the head wih petroleum jelly then wrap in plastic - leave a few hours, then washing becomes difficult. Use dish-detergent to wash and remove the grease after wiping and combing out the vaseline and lice and eggs thoroughly. Vinegar will also help.
- Lice vaseline wrap: Mix 1 cup real mayo with 2 tbs warmed vaseline. Wrap head securely in
saran wrap or shower cap for 3 hours minimum - all night is
recommended. Wash hair several times with DAWN diswashing liquid - the
original blue stuff works the best. It will take several
washings. You can also use a good shampoo for oily hair
with the Dawn.
- Lice Advice: If the lice are caught early, a single application of Nix may kill all of the lice
and nits (ah, the good old days...). But for stubborn cases, especially during school outbreaks,
following all of the steps can actually save a lot of hassle and repeated exposure to pesticides which make lice resistant!
Begin by treating the head of anyone who has lice with an
over-the-counter lice preparation, such as Nix. Don't leave it on longer than the instructions say and don't use anything stronger like Elimite. Use a special nit comb made of metal to remove the lice, like the LiceMeister. White vinegar on the hair may also help but don't use it at the same time as the medication and mix with dish detergent. After this is done, be sure to clean the house (or leave for at least 55 hours!) top to bottom, with soap and vacuuming at high power, using spray lice medicines, and wearing a tight shower cap.
- Lice treatment: Shampoo (use an inexpensive brand such as Prell -- these seem to mix more easily with the oils), 3 tbsp olive oil, 1 tsp tea tree oil, 1 tsp rosemary or eucalyptus oil. Add oils to a small amount of shampoo and mix well. Work into hair and leave on for a half-hour with a tight-fitting shower cap. This mixture has a strong smell. The
fumes may burn the eyes, so don't lean forward. Wash hair two or three times to get the oil out. Repeat the procedure if necessary.
- Lice treatment: using a hot blow dryer for 15 minutes,
morning and evening, in conjunction with thorough nit combing. The heat helps to kill the nits and
adult lice, but the combing is essential to the process. This type of treatment should not be combined with the over-the-counter treatment.
- Ingrown hair: use warm compresses on the skin DON"T USE A PIN TO PULL IT OUT! - with time the hair will loosen out.
