Elderly and old age
- For Alzheimer's disease, senile dementia, memory loss: Take ginkgo biloba at 60-80mg of standardized leaf extract, 2-3 times a day. Let your doctor know if you are taking blood thinners. Benefit 6 months to 1 year.
- To help memory, keep brain active with intellectual stimuli - crossword puzzles, reading, complex music.
- For memory: take niacin, get lots of rest, take manganese (a couple times a day - not magnesium!). There are other things you can do to improve memory: physical exercise helps (don't overdo it). also, listening to classical music (ex. Mozart) is said to increase IQ. In general, give your brain plenty of things to do (brain exercise) and it will function better. Do the crossword puzzle, word games, use mnemonics. Take notes, make to do lists, put notes up for things you're likely to forget. Some of the people who have the best memory put the things they want to learn into visual movies and pictures in their minds - associating your friend Dawn with a sunrise will help you remember her name.
- For elderly: exercise, good dental care, screening for cervical cancer, clot-busting drugs for heart attacks, and inhibitors for heart failure
- For eyes: after 40, screen for glaucoma, cataract
- Ginseng for combating aging and boosting energy
