Depression
- For mild depression: take St. John's wort. Acts much like other selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors but is less potent and has fewer side effects. DO NOT combine with these drugs or any depression medication (Prozac, Paxil, etc.). May also cause photosensitivity, so keep out of the sun when using it. Daily dosage is usually 300mg (of extracts containing 0.3% hypericin) 3 times a day, no longer than 8 weeks.
- A dietary supplement called SAMe is being touted as a great depression treatment with few side effects. See your doctor first.
- Taking plenty of vitamin B may help you overcome depression symptoms as well as SAMe does.
