The Malls
The Mall family isn't your ordinary family. They are a group of characters, each with their own fashion sense. Each person has his or her own unique traits, and they dress accordingly.
Minnie Mall is a fashionable girl. But she only owns 10 items of outer clothing (two pants, two tops, two skirts, a jacket, and a sweater). She wears the same pair of shoes and the same pair of earrings day in and day out, and has exactly one week's worth of underwear. When she travels, she takes half her wardrobe with her in a backpack! But if anything wears out, she buys something new at a regular store to replace it.
Minnie's strategy works out for her father, Desi Mall, who's always pinching pennies. He's been wearing the same brown pants and plaid shirt for twenty years. He has a comb over, and never wants to change his style. He will not spend more than his budget allows, and is very careful about how others in the family spend money.
Minnie's mom drains her budget sometimes, and embarrasses Minnie in the process. Annie Mall loves exotic clothing. She likes to buy croc purses and snakeskin shoes, leopard totes and zebra coats. She delights in wearing shiny leather things and is unafraid to wear the things she loves (and show off a fit body). She doesn't understand why Minnie dresses so conservatively, or why Desi can never bring his clothes into this century. But she loves her son for his fashion choices.
Minnie's brother, Abner, is a teenager, and wears the craziest clothes he can find. He has multiple piercings in various parts of his body, and changes his clothes from intact to deconstructed. He hates department store clothes and will only buy vintage finds or rare items. Abner blames Minnie for being dull and boring, and cons his dad out of money to buy the expensive things he wears.
The baby of the family, Max (Edgar) Mall requires lots of clothes. The more he grows, the more he needs. He goes through hundreds of diapers a week and almost as many onesies and bibs and little pants and shirts. He doesn't really care what he wears, but needs to stay warm and enclosed.
Yes, the Malls each have their style: Minnie Mall, the minimalist, Desi Mall, the penny-pincher, Annie Mall, the fashion victim, Abner Mall, the rebel, and Max E. Mall, the clothes hog. As they grow and change, they find what they like, what they don't like, and what they really need. They're a little like the average person, or like you and me.
