How to wear a t-shirt #20

How to wear a tshirt #20

You've made all sorts of things out of old tees, but as spring sets in, there's nothing more comfortable than a jersey dress. An old, oversize tshirt is the perfect thing for that.

Materials

  • oversize tshirt down to your knees
  • washable marker or marking pen
  • scissors
  • needle and thread, or sewing machine

    1. Wear the tshirt inside out. Feel where it seems too large, and use the marker to mark the dimensions of your body on it. Mark your waist, armpits, hips, and bust. Make sure to do both sides without pulling.
    2. Take off the tshirt (leave it inside out) and connect the dots you've made with smooth lines.
    3. Cut off the arms of the tshirt just below the seam. You can leave this unfinished seam or fold it and sew now.
    4. Keeping the tshirt flat, sew along the lines on each side, going through both layers.
    5. Turn the tee right side out, and try it on. See how it fits. Sew any places that seem too loose, or remove the seams in places that are too tight and re-sew.
    6. When it fits just right, go over the side seams with a zigzag stitch to keep it in place, and cut off the excess fabric.

Ta da - your new tshirt dress is done. Top with a cardigan on cooler days, or gussy it up with a few tricks.
