Equally impressive were the Design It! projects. Students were asked to take one common item and suggest ways it can be changed so that it will function more efficiently and comfortably. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the student inventions made their way to stores one day.
Students may want to enter their work in the Toshiba ExploraVision program. (exploravision.org) For this competition, students work in teams of two to four, research a commonly used piece of technology, predict how the item will be used twenty years from now, then design a web site to showcase their work.
Our current unit is the pulmonary system. Students will learn how lungs work and how to keep them healthy. We will also study the excretory, neural, and endocrine systems.
In February, all seventh graders will have a unit of family like. Topics in this unit include reproduction, anatomy, pregnancy, and sexually transmitted diseases. A descriptive letter and permission slip will be sent home before this unit.
