                               Happy new year!

Students did a great job on their earthquake assignments. Presentations ranged from web sites to posters to books to PowerPoint slides.  What was important to me is that students demonstrated an understanding of the material. Great job!

The next topic of study is volcanos. Students will learn about the types and locations of volcanos, and how they impact the environment and people around them.  Students will complete a research project on volcanos during class time.

CHALLENGE QUESTION:  What is the name of an extinct volcano in the  Bay area and where is it located?

After volcanos, we will study weather.  What a great time for this topic!

The primary emphasis will be for students to complete a science fair project.  Please see the "Science fair" section for more information.

The students did a wonderful job on their presentations to PrincipalLoughran-Smith. Students brainstormed ideas about how CMS can conserve natural resources and save energy (and money on utility bills!).  We practice what we preach-only one or two of my classroom lights are turned on to conserve energy.  The large classroom windows let in enough sunshine that the room is bright enough without all of the lights.
