January 2009
The chapter started the new year with its monthly meeting to discuss this year's plans for events.


December 2008
The chapter held a very festival holiday gathering at the popular Cattleman's Steakhouse at the Indian Cliffs Ranch.  Those who attended the holiday dinner participated in Christmas gift exchange and a game of White Elephant. Happy Holidays everyone!

October 2008
The chapter had a booth at the Annual Border Regional Library Association (BRA) Fall Workshops.  We handed out chapter literature and membership applications and we also sold local chapter T-shirts as well as the commemorative RNCIII t-shirts that were left over from the conference.

September 2008
Reforma National Conference III was held in El Paso, TX; September 18-21, 2008.  It was a great event.  As part of the Local Arrangements Committee, the local chapter board members received many compliments on how well the conference was organized, very educational workshops, and great entertainment and food.

June 2008
The chapter attended its first Teen Fest08 at the Cohen Stadium.  Jorge Lara sold t-shirts and gave out chapter literature to the teens, young adults and parents.

April 2008
This year at Día de los Niños, Dia de los Libros we played Loteria and gave out the Reforma library activity coloring books, Bilingual, Spanish and English books, as well as toys to the children.

December 2007
We held our first potluck holiday dinner at the Clardy Fox Branch Library for chapter and family members.

September 2007
The chapter had an information booth at the Border Regional Library Association (BRLA)/Southwestern Book Fair at the Main Library.  We sold several Reforma-El Paso Chapter t-shirts and we registered new chapter members that day as well.

April 2007
This year at Día de los Niños, Dia de los Libros we played Loteria and gave out the Reforma library activity coloring books, Bilingual, Spanish and English books, as well as toys to the children.

March 2007
The chapter had a fundraiser and the invited guests were the authors Denise and Susan Abraham Gonzalez who will discuss their influences in writing both the Cecilia’s Year and Surprising Cecilia.  The authors have been invited to speak at the annual Texas Library Association and for those library professional who cannot attend TLA, will have the opportunity to hear them speak at the El Paso chapter fundraiser.  March 29th, 2007 at Clardy Fox Branch Library from 6:00-8:00p.m.

December 2006-January 2007
In late November, the local chapter was informed that El Paso was being considered for the annual Reforma National conference.  The chapter hosted a dinner for the three committee members which included the president of National Reforma, Roxana Benavidez.


December 29, 2006
Late December, the chapter gathered at Jaxon’s on Airway to celebrate the holidays.  We had a great turn out with several of the attendants were new members to the chapter.  The chapter continued with its annual membership drive.  

September 2006
The chapter participated in the annual BRLA Fall Workshops by displaying an information booth.  After the workshops everyone was invited to the home of Bill and Martha Lockhart for a cookout.  The grilled steak, chicken and hot dogs were delicious!  It was a great turn out, the chapter recruited new members and current members had the opportunity to socialize with fellow librarians.

July 2006
The new president for the chapter was announced and Suzy Marrufo who is the manager of the Clardy Fox Library Branch was elected President of Reforma-El Paso Chapter 2006-2007. Congratulations Suzy!

 April 2005
The chapter awarded its very first “$500.00 Collection Development Mini-Grant” to the Fabens County Library.  The library will purchase English, Spanish and Bilingual library materials.

The chapter along with Austin and Dallas were awarded a grant by the Texas Council for Humanities to sponsor a library program during National Library and our special guest was Benjamin Alire Sáenz.  The event was very well attended and the chapter sold various titles of the author’s works. 

The chapter also helped the Armijo Branch Library staff and Pat Mora kickoff Día de los Ninos, Día de los Libros.  We were asked to sell several titles of the author’s books at the presentation.  There were about 300 attendants at the event. 

This year at Dia de los Ninos, Dia de los Libros we played Loteria and gave out the Reforma library activity coloring book; Bilingual, Spanish and English books for all ages, as well as toys to the children.

November 5-6, 2004
Author Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez was the guest speaker at the Annual El Paso Public Library Association Fundraiser at the Camino Real Hotel in downtown El Paso.  Her presentation focused on her new book Playing with Boys and also discussed how she came up with the characters for the book The Dirty Girls Social Club.  On Saturday, Nov.5th she gave another presentation at Irving Schwartz Library.  The chapter sold her books at both events.

September 25, 2004
The chapter sponsored a Border Regional Library Association (BRLA) Fall Workshop session.  We invited Miriam Rodriguez of the Dallas Public Library to give a presentation on Innovations in Reference Services to the Non-English speakers.  Mrs. Rodriguez did great, she was very informative and well prepared.   

August 23-24, 2004
The chapter participated in the eighth annual Dia de los Ninos Dia de los Libros at Washington Park.  The day will filled with games of Loteria and the prize was the Reforma activity book.

Gary Soto was invited by El Paso Community College in partnership with Public Library and to visit El Paso.  He talked about why he became a writer.  The chapter sold the following books: Chato’s Kitchen, Chato and the Party Animals, Buried Onions, Baseball in April and other stories, and Too Many Tamales.

October 16-17, 2003
On October 16th , John Rechy came to El Paso to help kick off the city's Read-As-One program and to help the EPPL's anuual fundraiser.  On October 18th, he gave a presentation at Richard Burges and talked about The Miraculous Day of Amalia Gomez, this years pick for the Read-As-One in El Paso.  The chapter sold his books: City of Night, The Miraculous Day of Amalia Gomez, and The Life and Adventures of Lyle Clemens.  He offered a writing workshop on Saturday, October 19th at the Clardy Fox Branch.

September 27, 2003
The chapter sponsored a workshop at this year's BRLA.  "Spanish for Librarians" conducted by Moises and Norma Koube. Bill Lockhart, President of the Chapter conducted a workshop on Consumer Health Reference on Line.  Leslie Trich gave two workshops on Basic Book Repair and Advanced Book Repair.  Martha I. Andrade, Fernando Racelis and Patricia Hernandez manned the chapter's booth and sold books:  City of Night, The Miraculous Day of Amalia Gomez by John Rechy; and Orange Candy Slices by Viola Canales; and other books. 

June 29th, 2003
The Chapter gave three scholarships away this year.  The recipients are Bea Ruiz, Sara Puentes, and Saidah Ochoa.  All three are attending the on-line library science program offered by UNT(University of North Texas).  Congratulations!!

Dia de Los Ninos, Dia de los Libros was a great success!  Members who volunteered to work the Reforma booth played Loteria all day long.  The child who yelled "Loteria" first received a Spanish/English library related activity book along with crayons.  Thanks to our very own Angie Garcia for creating the activity book. Special thanks to the following members for volunteering: Bill Lockhart, Martha I. Andrade, Mary Helen Michals, Karl Kingan, Ivonne Jimenez and her son, Pedro, Patricia Hernandez, and Leslie Trich Humble.

January 9th, 2003
Author, Victor Villasenor visited El Paso and gave a presentation two library branches.  The first branch he visited was Memorial Park Library at 10:00a.m., located at 3200 Copper and then at Armijo Branch at 2:00p.m., which is located at 620 E. 7th St.  He lectured on his experiences as a writer and signed copies of his books.  The chapter sold his books: Rain of Gold, Lluvia de Oro, and Wild Steps.

October 17th, 2002
Sandra Cisneros came to El Paso to discuss her new book Caramelo.  The chapter sold her books: House on Mango Street and Caramelo with a portion of the  proceeds going to the chapter's scholarship fund.  The El Paso Public Library is trying to raise funds to buy new furniture for the new Main Library expansion project.  The turn out was spectacular, Cisneros' presentation was very energetic and comical.

September 28th, 2002
During the BRLA Workshop, the chapter sold the book: House on Mango Street and Caramelo in order to prepare for the El Paso Read As One program and for Sandra Cisneros' scheduled visit for October.

June 30th, 2002
The chapter gave away its first local Reforma Scholarship to Martha C. Ramirez.  She is attending the UT Austin-EL Paso Library Science Program. She was awarded a check for $300.00.  Congratulations!!

April 28th, 2002
The chapter participated in the Dia de Los Ninos, Dia de los Libros.  At the Reforma booth children played Loteria and prizes were given out to the winners.
