John Gelhaus read from the Reed Reunion record book from 50 years ago. The oldest person at the 2004 reunion was Laureen Spitler; the youngest was John Gelhaus. Merle & Eloise Bauer came the farthest to the reunion; Ray & Janie Klemme came the shortest distance. The question, "What radio shows do you remember listening to before there was TV?" was asked. Merle Bauer said he remembered The Lone Ranger; Ralph Reed, Laureen Spitler, & Hazel Gelhaus remembered Fibber McGee & Molly. Grace Frette passed a paper around for people to write a note to Ruby Abramson, one of the matriarchs of the Reed family. Pat Frette had a lot of printed information & photos of Reeds & Radfords. Janie & Ray got to the park early to get coffee started & windows opened, but the shelter house was locked; after many calls, the manager still couldn't be found; we put picnic tables together outside, & the shelter never was unlocked; a small group of people had their own little meeting, passing a motion not to pay the shelter house rental. Grace Frette commented that out of all the days the shelter could be locked, this was a good weather day--75 degrees, partly sunny, light breeze; Ralph Reed suggested we should bring a bolt cutter next year. (Because of a change in shelter house management, the manager thought we knew of the "new" method of getting the key in advance.) The reunion lasted until 2:50 p.m. |
