The Wings Strike Back
The Red Wings once again advanced past the first two rounds to make it to the Western Conference Finals. Only, this time the outcome would be in another teams favor. The Wings end up beating the Arrogance in the same number of games that the Arrogance had beaten them in the year before. So, for the second time in four years, the Wings had a chance to bring the Cup back to Detroit, only this time, the foe would not be underestimated.
The Wings didn't have a better record, so that ment that the Phillidelphia Flyers had home ice advantage. The first two games would be played at Philly, and the next two at Detroit. The Wings take a three to nothing lead in the series, and the next, and final game would be played at Detroit.
The whole area of lower Michigan, and various others throughout the country, could feel the Stanley Cup coming back into the possesion of Detroit. The city was painted Red as the Fans' went crazy. Any Philly fan would be mocked for wearing non-Red Wing uniforms and colors.
With all the apparent celebrating, nothing had been won yet. The Wings still had to win to bring the Cup home, and that game hadn't even started yet. The Wings had to focus and play a good game. The game went seemingly slow. The score was 1-1 going into the third period. The fans get tense, waiting, guessing who the one will be to break the tie. Finally, the chance, to seal the deal, to end 42 years of being Cupless.
Darren gets fed a pass, that puts him one on one with a Phlly defenseman. Mac fakes to the outside, cuts around the defenseman. The same time, Ron Hextal, Philly's goalie, came out to challenge the shot. Mac just goes around a sprawling Hextal, and is all alone, staring into a wide open net. He puts the puck in the net, and the game on ice.   The celebration thus commenced. The first award to be handed out was the Conn Smythe trophy for the Playoff MVP. This was given to Mike Vernon, the Wing goalie. Only a couple votes behind Vernon, was the Captian, Steve Yzerman. But, frankly, no one cared that Stevie came in second, because what he was about to recieve trumped all. Gary Betman handed Steve Yzerman Lord's Stanley Cup. For me, the world could have stopped, and it wouldn't have mattered. Steve Yzerman, and that Cup was all that mattered. The Cup was passed around, letting all be glorified, in moments that could last forever. Finally, when all had a chance to be with the Cup, eveyone watched, as a group of brothers sat down for a family photo.
Another twist in the road presented itself to the Wings, and to get through it, all they would have to do it BELIEVE.
