The Red Wings changed everything. The Arrogance had dominated them that season, and the Wings didn't want to go into the playoffs dropping almost every game to the Arrogance. Also, the Arrogance had proven that they could push the Red Wings around.
On this day, the Arrogance had held a lead most the game until the final period. Regulation ended in a 5-5 tie. Not even a minute into overtime, Darren McCarty scores on a tip from a great pass from Shannahan to seal the victory. Even though McCarty got the game winning goal, it will not be most important part of the game to Red Wings fans. The most important part was during a fight earlier. The way it worked out, two finesse players, Igor Larionov for the Wings, and Peter Forsburg for the Arrogance, start a fight with each other.
When everyone was focused on that fight, McCarty leasurely skates to Lemieux, and punches him. Instantly, Lemieux goes down, protecting himself from the barrage of punches McCarty lands. All hell breaks lose, Patrick Roy, Arrogance goalie, skates from his crease to try and help Lemieux out, but is hit with a flying Shannahan closeline that send both players to the ice. Vernon, who was in goal for the Wings also came out of his net, to help balance the scrum because Roy offsetted it. Well, believe it or not, Roy and Vernon squared off, and Vernon ended up taking Roy to the ice.

Now, if you were able to fast forward and see the next meeting between these two teams, it would once again be in the 1997 Playoffs.
