Personality:
Zila is a sensuous, loving woman, when it doesn't interfere with her duties. She takes them very seriously and has been known to work herself into exhaustion. She is still learning to pace herself as she ages. She loves her two children and is foster mother to three more, a mothering instinct strong with her. She is very fair-minded and logical, one who can think outside the box. Slow to anger, her temper is nonetheless thunderous once roused. She's the kind to hold and cherish a grudge, if deserved.
Possessing a good sense of humor and an understanding nature, she is more tolerant of mistakes than most people. However, two things sure to win her ire are deceit and slothfullness. She tolerates neither, and, though she understands that few are as driven as she, she expects hard and good work and gives it in return. Woe to those who harm any drudge or worker under her care, for she is as protective of them as a queen over her eggs.
History:
Born the youngest child of a minor holder in Keroon, Zila grew up knowing little but governing a hold under the guidance of her weakened, but still keen minded mother. Her father died in an accident when she was 12, the hold then falling to her elder brother and his wife. Though Tinalan was kind enough to her, his wife was not. So when the Searchrider came, she leaped at the chance to escape, now in her 15th turn.
For two turns, she stood as Candidate on the hot sands of Ista, until she took up with a brownrider and gave up on the idea of being a rider herself. She knew what she was suited to be. Those two turns were not wasted, for she knew the weyr in and out. The headwoman took her under her wing and taught her all she would need to know to run any Lower Cavern on Pern. Experience would teach her the rest.
When the call came to volunteers to transfer to the South, she was one of the first. Her intelligence, knowledge, and experience fairly guaranteed her position and that of her two children, whom the dragons were already interested in.
In the eighth month of 529, Kiala, her daughter Impressed green Shinath, making Zila more proud than she'd ever been in her life.
