| CHAPTER 16: LETUM UXOR | |||||||||||||||||||||
| THE REPORT: Battling their way through Letum Uxor's stronghold, the group runs into Imperial soldiers -- and Iron Crossed Troopers! Krin disappears with one of the Imperial soldiers, shadowing his loyalties to the group. The soldier explains that they are seeking Rappaport - and that Lord Andys Valdymere is personally overseeing the mission with Lord Ryld, "The Silver Lord." As the group progresses through the melee, Iron Crossed troops open fire on them, even after Darius flagged them down. Thinking quickly, the group utilized a forklift and excellent battle tactics to deal with the Iron Crossed threat. Upon reaching Uxor's stronghold, they find that they are now not only fighting against Letum Uxor, but Jeynta as well. Ullume Tevin reveals himself as Pravus Malum, and it becomes clear that Letum Uxor was once his student. The battle ensues, in which Killian, Darius, and Sarof are killed. The group fights bravely on, dispatching Uxor's bodyguards, until Jeynta acts of her own accord - warping and bending reality to her whim to create a hodge podged metal dragon from the crane in the room, killing Letum Uxor. During the battle, Sigardius also loses his life, along with Ari'Seleara. Thinking quickly, Raven and Shakaku plug a power cable into a steam dynamo, and Raven follows the sound of gunshots through the collapsed floor, finding Brogan. Brogan explains that his crew were possessed by the spirits following them, and that he had to kill them all himself before leaving to find the rest of the party. Brogan tries to get the steam dynamo running, but the power cables are too short - having nothing left to live for, he uses himself to conduct the needed electrical charge to break Jeynta's power. The electrical charge is enough, shattering Jeynta's trance and the beast she had created. Raven, thinking quickly, resuscitated the nearly dead Brogan, and gave him a reason to live again. Jeynta, seeing what she had done, healed both Sigardius and Ari'Seleara before passing into a deep coma. In the aftermath of the battle, Lord Valdymere and The Silver Lord made their presences known - and offered to help the group make their way to The City. It seems Valdymere had been looking for them, but failed to recognize them when they first met. Though the group does not fully trust the treacherous Valdymere, they opt to go with him rather than brave the Sand Sea with a steam rail engine. Krin, it turns out, may also be more than he appears - one of Valdymere's bodyguards called him "The Ninth Angel." Now, the group finds themselves in Valdymere's ship, the C.N.A.C. Blackbird, waiting to see what comes next. |
