Corporation, et al, Behind this computer I look like I'm OK. I'm not. I struggle to use a can opener, have to open my yogurt with my teeth and usually eat out of the can because it's hard to do dishes or any chores. It's so degrading to live like this. What a mess. It's very difficult to explain why I was denied medial treatment after an auto accident. And of course Microsoft came into it. This all started when I wrote this e-mail to Bill Gates in 1991. Is saying you will pray for someone a threat on their life? Oh, come on 3, I was trying to get rehired. AND I was trying to explain how there was a sexual bias in your software because computers software was based on human psychology. Men and women are psychologically different. Just as in other mammals this is tied to our reproduction needs. We all know the difference between a Tom Cat and a Mother Cat or a Roaster and a Hen or a Bull and a Cow.... Males butt heads and females nurture the young. Males are space and Females are time. Together you have the Continuum. :-) I know you got that back then even Q. NOTE: This is a work in progress... I'm posting it for the government in D.C. and the media. Bill Gates was prevented from testifying in the antitrust case. I think this is why. I'm going to sue Microsoft so he can finally have the opportunity to defend himself. Other women who have worked at Microsoft and some that still are, what me to make this a class action. I'm not sure. I think with my physical injuries, I should get more money. I want money. I'm going to require someone to care for me for the rest of my life. I want a lot of money. Show me the money honey and this Bee will be gone. :-)

Bill Gates' father, his wife and Patty Stonesifer manages the Gates foundation. They have interfered with my life for over 10 years. I don't think anyone can understand what it's like to be disabled by Microsoft and Mr. Gates' Foundation and then have people using your disability to retaliate. Well, this is where it is at. This is a felony. Period of Time: From June 1988 to present without interruptions. Result: Lost of income, career, family, physical health resulting in a permanent physical disability, community harassment and discrimination involving Health and Human Service for the Disabled which threaten my very ability to stay alive--getting food in your home, medial treatment, safe living condition, etc.--the essentials of survival. In Microsoft own words--"cutting off someone's air supply" This is one of their business tactic covered in their antitrust case. I have not seen my children in over 6 years. Both my parents went to their graves thinking I was a psychotic who had flipped out because of calls people from Microsoft made to them in California. I couldn't believe this. Cause of present situation: From 1988 the company attempted to head hunt me. "Head hunting" is a practice know to industry as "aggressively seeking the employment of very talented individual," who would become an asset to your competitor if you don't get them first. ." What frequently happens is if they can't get you for their company, they will make it impossible for anyone else to have you or to even let you work for yourself. This is a problem faced by a lot of us. They also do this to small businesses. Microsoft is NOT the only corporation engaged in this sort of activity. It's seen as a part of normal business. But in fact it is totally against both the Antitrust laws and Civil Rights laws. General Time Table of Events: [Please note: When this started Microsoft was a company of less than 2,000 people.] June 1988: OIT, Klamath Fall, Or. Received unsolicited call from Microsoft Recruiting at my home. They claimed to have heard about me. They said they wanted to interview me. Arrangements were made. I was sent a letter with prepaid travel, rental car, residents and other expenses of the trip. (see ex: 1.) Being from a rural community and quite naive, I had no idea what was going on. I had also been hit on by several other companies--HP came to Klamath Falls and took me to lunch. Other's were cold calling me also. Microsoft interviewed my for a lower level management position. I was told they would help pay for me to get my MBA. They wanted me to entertain Bill Gates and manipulate him. They wanted me to work 60 to 80 hours. I had three children and was 38. They didn't know this. I looked 10 years younger and acted much younger too. The wages they offered were around $30,000 a year. This is only $2,500 a month--about $8 to 10 an hour. I made more than that before college. I didn't take the job. It didn't pay enough and made too many demand that were outside of my personal ethics. August 1988: I get head hunted by another company. They are Minisoft. They are a small HP/Microsoft word processor company in Redmond, WA. I took the job on a phone interview because they were small, wanted me to work only about 40 hours a week and paid $2,000 a month. This was about $12.50 an hour. Much better than Microsoft. My move was also being paid for and my first month's rent. I took the job. I took the job. I started at Minisoft at the beginning of Sept. 1988. It was a setup. I had a three month On the Job Training voucher from Oregon Vocation Rehab Department that paid half my wage. When that was gone, these people said they had no more work for me. I was laid off. April 1989: Again I get a call out of nowhere from Microsoft. (see ex. 2)They said that Bill Gates had personally requested that the Interview me. Again I was picked apart by these interviewers. I was interviewed by the two top designers for Windows. At lunch I the poor engineer who was talking to me told me they had never seen anything like what I was working on. I was working on a natural language interface for robotics. While it seems primitive by today's standards, back then it was totally cutting edge. Beth Davis was obsessed with me and my relationship to Gates. Evidently, the women in HR thought there was something sexual going on because I was female. The fact that I was doing research in an area that Gates was very interested in seemed to miss them all together. These women essentially projected their mode of behavior on to me. This is at the bottom of most of my problems. So HR blocked the job even though the males wanted to hire me. It didn't end there. May 1989: Shortly after this I was called by a private head hunter. This time I was hired by Microsoft as an independent contractor. (see Ex. 3) During that period, I had an office next to Michael Harris. Mike use to brag about dating Bill Gates' executive assistant--Susan Raunig. He was quit good looking, but no technical education--or any college education at all. He was not technical at all but bragged of playing tennis professionally. This guy constantly harassed me on the job. [NOTE: Executives at Microsoft have know of my intent to sue after this antitrust case was over for over 2 years. As a result, since the end of 1999 when I posted the exparte document they got to spy on my e-mail with FirstWorld, executives, including Bill Gates and Paul Allen who later quit, have sold massive amounts of stock. Executives who never sold stock in the pat area selling now--including Bill Neukom. Many of the executives have quit. Bill Gates resigned as CEO at the beginning of Jan. 2000. Since that time the stock has falling to about half what it was. Two years later in Jan. 2002, the NASDAQ is down from 5,000 to under 2,000. I knew he was going to quit when I posted this document. We all owe this to Bill Gates' daddy and his law firm. ADOC01.gif Once again the Preston Gates and Ellis--Bill Gates' father's Law Firm attempted to do surveillance on me and censor Bill Gates. It's amazing how Bill Gates' father messes up his life. He also destroyed our economy because he was stupid to not deal with a women like his son. Most of his legal problems are due to the incompetence and arrogance of his father and his law firm. Billy you need to do a Kristi now... :-) Remember how you mother and father were more concerned about the UW's reputation than your friends death? I remember. Why do you give the UW money? I'm a channel. Tune into me. You have a spiritual guide. Use it. Your father is still threatening me. Why doesn't he just hire a hit man? I sent an intent to sue to Ballmer and they did this? This law firm is just trying to cover it's ass. If your father's law firm had done a deposition the first time around they would have had these document. I know that Microsoft isn't acting on this alone. I've got your father on tap. Why don't you start that school with me. You could mentor Greg Smith and others like him You know what they want from him. Do what Michael Jackson did with Macaulay Culkin. Your father is just like theirs were. He presses you to work like a mule so he can use your celebrity and money to have power. Be a man. Stand up to him. ]
There is a really good Asian Book store in Uwajimaya's in Seattle. The flash cards are the best. Dictionaries are a waste of money if you are English speaking. July 1989: I went to work for Aldus to do testing on the OS/2 project. It was also a contract and lasted for 3 months. Late Sept. 1989: I was again contacted by Microsoft some time about the end of Sept. 1989. They said that VP Mike Maples wanted me interviewed. I had written him a paper letter about what was going on with the OS/2 project at Aldus. They wanted me to work on it again at Microsoft. This time the job was to do porting of application from 16 bit to 32 bit. It was a perfect job for me because of my background in language interpretation. The interview was setup and everything. Again this was for a REAL Microsoft job not a contract. At the last minute it was canceled without explanation. Jan. 2, 1990: An article about me appears in the Seattle Times.
I went to work for a few small companies a a contractor. One of those jobs ended after a person in Microsoft HR called them up. I got along with everyone in that job too. About a month later.... July 1990: Again out of the blue I get called by Microsoft about working for them via Kelly Services a contractor. They said that Microsoft was interested in me. I really thought this was a joke. I hadn't applied to Microsoft ever for a job, really didn't want to work there. But out of curiosity decided to go in for the interview. To my amazement, they wanted me working right down stairs from Bill Gates. They wanted me in a 40 hour a week job, handling government contracts. In the first week I would be sent back to Washington, D.C. for training. I like taking trips so against my gut I took the job--more out of curiosity than anything else. I later found out that they thought that if you were an independent contractor, you couldn't bring charges against them if Bill Gates came onto you sexually. Other women told me that after being hired by Microsoft, they were forced to quit. They found that they could only work if they went back to Microsoft as a contractor. I never found a single one of these women who claimed that Bill Gates was coming on to them sexually. However, Mr. Gates never corrected that assumption in his company. I had been male, they would have hired me in April 1989 but forced me into a contract job instead. The other problem was that I was doing cutting edge research. They didn't want me working for anyone else. So my career started to go down hill. I literally came under attack by these very people. I was way over qualified for the job. The two men that I went with were terrified of me. I was hazed on that trip and was injured. (see ex. 6) The one man who was our lead--David Stiles, was being goaded into thinking I was there to take his job by my coworker--Glen Farijo (sp?). He was a Filipino national. This was yet another male who was totally non technical and uneducated. He seemed to be the token racial minority in the group at the time. He was also handling government contracts. Microsoft was attempting to appear to fulfill their Affirmative Action requirement necessary to obtain government contracts under the OFCCP Chapter 60 guidelines. The harassment on the job, again, was beyond belief. Working with someone like this was impossible for me. He couldn't even write a sentence let alone a report. I may have a problem writing and need to be proof read due to my complex thinking. My problem is that I write at grade 16 and they want me to make it the grade 8. This isn't the same thing. This is quite hard. This co-worker wanted a job in Microsoft systems. He didn't have the education or skills for the work. He. spent his days hacking Microsoft's network. He was using pornography to obtain access to servers in their systems engineering group. He had password access to numerous servers that he could have done damage to either by malicious intent or out of stupidity. He wanted me to write reports so he could put his name on them so he would appear technically qualified for a job there. In my view and in the view of most other engineers, this is a major security threat. The US was going to war in Iraq. We were handling the government accounts. He was acting very suspicious. I couldn't tell if he was just trying to get a better job or trying to obtain access to sensitive information that he could sell. He seemed to be living above is means given his job and wages. Then there was also the pornography issue. Eventually, I attempted to report him and his continued use of coercion and harassment to get me to comply. I was under treatment for the injury sustained on the trip and he was doing every thing possible to do further injury to me. But he wasn't alone. There was a whole network of racial minorities on the sales and marketing side of the company that were doing the same thing. I've never seen a security problem as bad as this one at Microsoft. No one in Microsoft security or HR ever talked to me. Instead I was fired the next day. There was NO review at all. I kept thinking that if someone didn't do something that they could end up in trouble with the government after being yelled at on the phone many times by the military who I was calling. They were very upset with Microsoft. Because of the military situation at the time, I decided to go to the government. I filed a complaint with both the OFCCP and the EEOC. Neither agency did anything at all. There was no contact between me and Microsoft HR--just the cover-up. To this day, no one from Microsoft legal, HR or Security has ever interviewed me about this case. May 1991: Microsoft was now under antitrust investigations. I was recovering from spinal surgery due to the injury at Microsoft. I was on Labor and Industry and now had a permanent disability due to nerve damage in my hands. With a background in Laser technology, robotics and computer hardware and electronics, I was worried about what I was going to do. I read a series of very destructive article about Bill Gates in the Seattle PI. I could really empathize with him. He didn't seem to understand why he was under such an attack. I saw it internally and felt he needed to know what was going on at the lower level of his company. I decided to write to him via e-mail. I blew the whistle on what was a major government security issue involving Microsoft during a period of war. I have subpoenaed copies of the e-mail to Bill Gates. In one I said something like: 'I'm a women. I was genetically engineered to clean house. You are living in a dirty house. People who live in dirty house get sick. Let me help you clean up this mess.' I was speaking metaphorically because that is how we engineers communicate. It was also a preconscious attempt to make light of a very serious situation. He likes this. I always give him pictures or stories he can relate to. We were doing pretty good. I was sending him my research. I was trying to convince him into starting a research group. He did start that group. He also started the UI group--actually hiring in psychologist to study human interactions with computers. I thought he was going to hiring me to do research. Then out of nowhere I came under attack. Someone in the state falsely accused me of making physical threats against Microsoft. I turned out that Microsoft security--a contractor--was attempting to get information about my physical condition from the Department of Labor and Industries. This was illegal. I assume this contractor-- didn't like my e-mail to Mr. Gates about the security problems inside of Microsoft. They claimed I was making physical threats against the company in order to attempt to get information. This is in documents. Labor and Industry wrote about this to my insurance adjuster. The insurance adjuster without ever contacting me about this, sent the letter to Microsoft legal. They went crazy. Without anyone ever contacting me about a thing--not Labor and Industry, the police, Microsoft or their security contractor, they wanted to get a anti-harassment order against me. They took me to court. I showed my e-mail to Mr. Gates to the judge. Everyone was laughing about it because I would say things like: I'll pray for you at the end of my messages. The allegations were insane. But Gwen Weld of Microsoft HR claimed that the gossip inside of the company about Mr. Gates and me. > This is one of my primary harassers. This is Gwen

She reminds me of a Nazi madam. I called her gossip network the Stone
Roses after the rock group. The legal department was actually copying all of Gates' e-mail without his knowledge. They were spying on the boss. Then these women were sending it all over the company. Once again these women were projecting their mode of behavior onto me. They can't read it but I'm female and he is male so it must be about sex. It was so bad that the women were not doing their work. Gwen claimed they had to stop the e-mail. What they needed to do is stop spying on Bill Gates. This was a totally intellectual situation between Gates and me. It involved very serious government security issue. I had a Major at Pentacle yell at me on the phone about our behavior. I also had the CO for NARDAC (Naval communication) yell at me. I was worried about the FBI coming over to Microsoft and accusing them on spying on the government. It was really that bad and has remained so for over 10 years. The people at the top simply don't have a grip on what is going on at the bottom. Without Mr. Gates' knowledge, the company was granted their non-contact order to stop the communication. They literally censored their CEO. Why do I have a feeling things like this were going on at Enron... :-) Isn't it much nicer to deal with these issues in public instead? Now I've seen braindead people but Bill Gates' father's law firm is really braindead. They seem to think that because they can buy or influence all the judges and politician they can stop us. The whole mess ended up in the media. In all but the Seattle Times, the mess was made light of. Gates looked like an idiot. Here he is out promoting computers and their unique ability to connect people and then censors someone for using one from their home to mail him. I was even on CNN and my parents saw me on TV in Ontario, CA. (see ex. 7). If someone doesn't want to read your e-mail they can delete it or block the address. The real problem was obvious, he did want to read it and was using it. The people who didn't like what was in that e-mail wanted it to stop. They wanted to censor him. Summary: The whistle blower harassment that has gone on since this defamation in the media is beyond belief. I had my DVR cut off about a week after the article. I attempted to sue Microsoft. I thought Gates was personally defamed as bad as I was. I thought this would give him the opportunity to clear his name in court document or testimony or by compensating me in some way for the viscous harassment--setting the record straight. The case was being handled by Bill Gates' father's law firm and he doesn't do that. Instead, I had my Labor and Industries worker's' compensation cut off without medical release a week after they were served. Joe Dear was the head of that Division and is a person friend of Bill Gates' father. Bill Gates Jr. and his families involvement in Washington State politics, the United Way and the Gates Foundation, have given them a very effective way to use my physical disability to harass me. Gates and Ellis law firm is also behind the legal harassment coming out of
Microsoft. It's their name on all the document. It's been ten years of constant discrimination and harassment. My present physical disability is due to a lack of medical treatment covered by valid insurance. The kind of unnecessary pain and suffering I continue to go through is a felony under both federal and state law. But add to that the issue of blowing the whistle on REAL government security problems and you get a Federal felony which can bring a 16 year jail sentence. I have Mr. Gates on answering machine messages. He gave me his phone numbers and was attempting to do some kind of intimidation of me. I have from time to time over the past 10 years contacted him about what was going on and begged him to make them stop. He doesn't. Instead it always gets worse. I literally thought that if I gave up trying to start a company or work and just crawled in a hole living in a HUD housing project and on SSI they would leave me alone.
It's only became worse. I have tried everything. I even tried to get a Union into Microsoft. I networked with various Unions since 1992. They really need a Union or professional guild to resolve professional disputes so people like me don't have to deal with security guards, HR and legal people who don't understand the technical issues. This is the most recent stupid thing they did. I sent out a letter with the intent to sue hoping that I wouldn't have to put this on the Internet. Once again these people ran interference. Anyone who is an engineer will gets some humor out of this.... :-) I was using a return receipt. This is what came back from Steve Ballmer--the CEO--e-mail. Return-Path: <[email protected]> I didn't know that I could get a response like this. :-) First of all, if it's delete without being read I should have nothing. If a person doesn't want to send a reply that they read it, I should have nothing. But, Microsoft has obviously a totally new e-mail package running on the CEO's computer. Is this a bug? I don't think so... This is so stupid. Don't they know I'm an engineer that Gates was head hunting? It's precisely this kind of thing that got them in trouble with the government in the first place. Why do I get the feeling this is going on everywhere... If Ballmer thinks he has a high tech person helping him he better wake up and smell the roses. This person is an idiot. I got this after the 911 situation when I sent e-mail to billg. I knew he wasn't OK. The rumor about his emotional breakdown at Microsoft was floating around town since 1999. It was amazing to be taken to court by a security guard and an attorney, both working for other companies. Obviously they didn't even read the e-mail I sent to Bill Gates. It was about government security and floating point math. I knew they would loose their government contracts if they didn't fix their security problems. We couldn't get them to listen at Microsoft so I felt he would read my e-mail and decided to try. They are in deed loosing them. The government is actually putting Apple OS X in as firewalls. Once you have IT professionals trained on this system, there is no need to buy Windows, especially when the Apple OS X and Linux are very close. They totally blew it. The Military has close to 800,000 people most with computers or handheld Palm handhelds which doesn't run Windows. We had people out sourcing our Y2K software for the government to Russia and China! :-) It was less than 10 years since the Berlin Wall came down. They were are enemies. Most other racial minority contractor are bragging on their web sites. So what is with this company? I first did research on this company during the Clinton sex scandal because of the bizarre e-mail. I couldn't believe they were actually using e-mail from Monica Lawinsky's computer. Like Bill Gates, Clinton would have security people reading most of his e-mail. Return-Path: <[email protected]> Anyone can go to North East District Court in Redmond and ask for the legal document of Microsoft vs. Joan L. Brewer. I totally set them up the last time when the harassment started again. Of course they only had a fraction of the e-mails I had sent to Bill Gates over a two and one half year period of time about math in Windows and Windows security issues. This means they didn't ask him for the rest. They don't understand this was done to document the interference by Microsoft's security and legal contractors on purpose. I posted on my web that I was sending e-mail to Gates to see what they did. In Ballmer's case, sending me a reply when his mail was delete gave me the full path back to him, something a hacker could put to really good use if they had done the same thing. Now that is really bad security! I would call this a security bug. If it's a new feature in Microsoft Exchange, remove it at once! I'm not the only one to go through this. There are people like me all over the industry, especially locally. Engineers are literally living on the streets or have turned up dead here because of these business practices. Microsoft has a monopoly and there software is all over the military and government. It's a security nightmare that would never have been had people like me not come under such bizarre attack. I do have a complaint under investigation for criminal reason by the DOJ but given the way they are sucking up to Microsoft I have no hope of anything coming out of that. I felt compelled to do this because Gov. Gary Locke refused to investigate the harassment by bureaucrats. That seems to be the general consensus throughout the industry. I don't think there is anything I can do to make it stop but sue. I can't even get medial treatment in my community. I was even denied medical treatment at the UW Medical Center when I went in there for withdraws from a highly addictive medication I was no longer taking. I was a mess. I've never been through anything like this. The UW receives federal money. I think I go after their money. I expect to die before I get a case through court because of this. But if I die, they will have to at least deal with this mess. Bill Gates and I had further communications in a more clandestine way
over the years. We were sneaking around. Then in 1999 I came under attack
by his father's law firm yet again. They went so far as to get an exparte'
order forcing my service provider to give them my personal e-mail.
I know Mr. Gates is frustrated too--especially with the way his father
meddles in his life. He seems desperate for honest feedback. My career problem and local discrimination due to the defamation by a small group inside of Microsoft and their legal and security contractors persist. Recently I had an appointment with DVR. As soon as that appointment was setup on Feb. 13, 2002 I got a letter dated Feb. 18, 2002 from my apartment manager. They said they needed to show up and do repairs on the day I had the appointment and would enter my apartment if I wasn't there. This isn't the first time this has happened. It's a repeat scenario. One hand doesn't know what the other is doing. I keep all documents on all of this. As it turned out, I got it from another side. My Access ride who showed up to take me to the appointment. He bused my door. I said I would be right out. It takes about 3 minutes to shut my computer down and get my jacket on and in my chair and out the door. He decided to leave without picking me up, leaving me running after him down the drive way. He wouldn't stop. I continued down the sidewalk in my wheelchair. I have a witness. I went back into my apartment and called Access at once. I expected them to tell this guy to turn around and go back. I knew he couldn't have gotten on the freeway yet. But they didn't do anything. I still had a 15 minute window for the pick up. He never came back. I called Tracy Wilson at DVR at once. I was still over an hour prior to the meeting. The meeting was canceled. Now they send me a letter claiming that I was a no show. By all rights, I should be worth as much as Jim Allchin. Due to the physical damages, I believe I should be worth much more. I keep track of these cases. When there is fraud and anything involving exploiting tax money the judges are throwing the book at these companies. I'm going to need personal care for the rest of my life and have a real problem with taxpayers paying for it. I also need to move away from these people. Since Bill Gates wouldn't tell the truth and provide me with some protection, there is nothing else I can do. I have to sue. I can't describe what it's like to be physically disabled and have people using it to do still further harm. I've logged a complaint with the DOJ in D.C. I don't know if it will ever go anywhere. There is a large group of us who did this. Many are right in this community and been through similar situation. My case is one of the worse. This is my nemesis. I pulled some of the donation from this foundation to agencies directly and indirectly involved with my case. I'm never going to recover from this now. The window of opportunity for surgery and other therapy was gone two years ago. So now I'm a quadriplegic for life. And staying in a community where I'm harassed and discriminated against like this is going to kill me. I want out of here. The UW and Harborview are apart of the same HMO. They are on the same computer system too. They are about the only ones in the state right now taking Medicare and Medicaid. So this has left me in a very bad way... It was billed as a fund-raiser for Gov. Gary Locke. At least that's why 400 people each paid $500 to eat finger food last night in the ballroom of a downtown Seattle hotel. But the event quickly turned into an impromptu pep rally for beleaguered Bill Gates and Microsoft, fresh from a pummeling by a federal court judge in Washington, D.C. Gates was a co-host of the Locke fund-raiser and introduced the governor to the crowd. And while he made no mention of his legal troubles, Locke did. No one should be surprised that a local politician paid homage to the hometown software magnate. But Locke made it clear last night that he thinks his friends in the Clinton administration will ultimately lose their case against his friend in Redmond. The applause was long and loud for Microsoft's co-founder. "Too bad I'm not running for office," Gates joked. It was almost as if Locke were there merely to introduce Gates. "I think the press was timing the applause, and we know that the person who got the most was Bill Gates, and deservedly so," said Locke, who then called for "another big round of applause for Bill Gates." For the record, it was close. Gates had a 43-second ovation to Locke's 34 seconds. A lot in common
Last night's event was a bit of a pick-me-up for Locke and Gates. Both have hit rough spots in their careers. Gates' problems are well documented in the statement of facts issued by a federal court judge on Friday, declaring Microsoft was operating a monopoly. Locke last week faced the overwhelming approval of Initiative 695, an anti-tax measure the first-term Democrat had strongly opposed. "You know Bill and I actually have a lot in common," Locke said. "Well, both of us had our hair poked fun of." (Locke has a notorious bowl cut, while Gates maintains a "Leave-It-To-Beaver" style.) "We've been accused of concentrating so much on our work we never had time to get a life, and, before we found our spouses, our parents gave up on us. . . . And, of course, last, but not least, we both had very interesting weeks last week." Locke also pointed out that he and Gates have children about the same age. Their wives are friends and co-chair the Governor's Commission on Early Learning. Locke said he was sure everyone in the audience believed as he did, that "in Bill's case the judge's ruling will be overturned and Microsoft will ultimately prevail." "No company and no individual has done more to empower people, to level the information-playing field, to serve the consumers than Microsoft and Bill Gates," Locke said. Gates' good works
Gates' charitable giving was hailed by Locke and first lady Mona Locke, the mistress of ceremonies for the event. Locke used the rest of his speech to reiterate that he will follow the voters' wishes in implementing I-695 and by giving his standard stump speech - although with a bit more emotion and gusto than normal - about the importance of education. Gates gave a short introduction, talking of Locke's support for education and the technology role he plays on the National Governor's Association. After Locke's speech, Gates talked briefly to the governor about I-695 and the state's initiative process. "That whole referendum thing is fascinating," Gates told Locke. "Maybe we can tap that for education the same way." "We'll have to talk about that," Locke said. Celebrity treatment
Gates was mobbed by the crowd as he made his way from the ballroom. People shook his hand, touched his arm, asked him for help for various causes and urged him to keep fighting the federal government. "I'll do my best," Gates told one man. While it was a low-key speech, it was unusual in that Gates doesn't normally take such a public role in politics. He has been giving more donations recently and trying to maintain a bipartisan approach. He recently hosted a fund-raiser for Republican Sen. Slade Gorton, another critic of last week's court ruling. Republican Party Chairman Dale Foreman, a possible opponent of Locke's next year, said Gates has been very generous to the party. He said a Microsoft executive told him recently, "There are a lot of people out there who always assumed they were Democrats, but all of a sudden with this antitrust investigation and talking around the water cooler, they realize they are free-marketeers." 'A true American hero'
Praising Gates is one of the few things Foreman agrees with Locke about. "Gates is a true American hero," Foreman said. "He has created jobs for our economy, but he has created hope for our kids. Any politician would love to hitch their wagon onto Microsoft's star."
Although Locke has not yet officially announced he is running for a second term, Bill Marler, an attorney and Locke's campaign-finance chairman, said the campaign had raised about $500,000 before last night. injury to the victim or another person;
(b) Causes physical
damage to or destruction of the property of the
victim or another person; or
(c) Threatens a specific person or group of persons and places that person, or members of the specific group of persons, in reasonable fear of harm to person or property. The fear must be a fear that a reasonable person would have under all the circumstances. For purposes of this section, a "reasonable person" is a reasonable person who is a member of the victim's race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, gender, or sexual orientation, or who has the same mental, physical, or sensory handicap as the victim. Words alone do not constitute malicious harassment unless the context or circumstances surrounding the words indicate the words are a threat. Threatening words do not constitute malicious harassment if it is apparent to the victim that the person does not have the ability to carry out the threat. (2) In any prosecution for malicious harassment, unless evidence exists which explains to the trier of fact's satisfaction that the person did not intend to threaten the victim or victims, the trier of fact may infer that the person intended to threaten a specific victim or group of victims because of the person's perception of the victim's or victims' race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, or mental, physical, or sensory handicap if the person commits one of the following acts: (a) Burns a cross on property of a victim who is or whom the actor perceives to be of African American heritage; or (b) Defaces property of a victim who is or whom the actor perceives to be of Jewish heritage by defacing the property with a swastika. This subsection only applies to the creation of a reasonable inference for evidentiary purposes. This subsection does not restrict the state's ability to prosecute a person under subsection (1) of this section when the facts of a particular case do not fall within (a) or (b) of this subsection. (3) It is not a defense that the accused was mistaken that the victim was a member of a certain race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, gender, or sexual orientation, or had a mental, physical, or sensory handicap. (4) Evidence of expressions or associations of the accused may not be introduced as substantive evidence at trial unless the evidence specifically relates to the crime charged. Nothing in this chapter shall affect the rules of evidence governing impeachment of a witness. (5) Every person who commits another crime during the commission of a crime under this section may be punished and prosecuted for the other crime separately. (6) "Sexual orientation" for the purposes of this section means heterosexuality, homosexuality, or bisexuality. (7) Malicious harassment is a class C felony. (8) The penalties provided in this section for malicious harassment do not preclude the victims from seeking any other remedies otherwise available under law. (9) Nothing in this section confers or expands any civil rights or protections to any group or class identified under this section, beyond those rights or protections that exist under the federal or state Constitution or the civil laws of the state of Washington.
