One tick can kill your dog.
You must be vigilent virtually all year round.
Check with your local vet to see how prevelant ticks are in your area.
There is no 100% guaranteed safeguard.

Apart from the above statements, we are not giving advice.
We can however, tell you what we do.
We use a homeopathic solution available from our vet. This solution contains a tiny residue of tick venom.  Five drops of the solution is placed in fresh drinking water every day.  This is said to help build an immunity against the effects of a parylsis tick.  It WILL NOT prevent ticks from attaching but it is hoped that the boosted immunity will lessen the affects of the tick.  This should hugely increase the dog's chance of survival.

2008 sees a huge and very nasty tick season.  We have removed ticks  from several of our dogs.  The larger dogs showed no ill effects.  One young Westie showed some sign but a trip to the Vet was very successful.

Please note - these ticks also poison children.
