The lovely people at Yahoo! saw fit to grant me a space wherein I am allowed to express myself howsoever I wish. Contained herein are my thoughts, disorganized and dissociative they may be, but I believe that they are valuable; any individualized perception of the world as it exists is valuable, even in such a pseudo-egalitarian nation as these our United States. Above is a photo of the city I call home, Raleigh, the capital of North Carolina, deep within the Bible Belt, a land where winter is much more an abstraction than a reality. You see, winter, in this lovely southern state, really only lasts for about three weeks in January; but in our modern world, the winter of discontent, as Shakespeare would have it, is never-ending, encouraged by the lies, deceits, and contradictions engendered by our unique culture.
The immediate conclusion drawn by the preceding statement (by those who see things as black and white, us or them, with us or against us), is that I hate America, that I am unpatriotic, liberal, and a general prick. Of these three, however, only the latter is true: I am a prick, an arrogant bastard, self-righteous and bordering on misanthropy. I am, however, a patriot. Dissent and comment are necessary in this world: without a differing viewpoint, society as a whole would never advance. Wallace Stevens, the great American poet of the modern era, once wrote that "Politics is the struggle for existence" (Opus Posthumous "Adagia"), and nowhere is that more true than in modern America. The struggle for a dominant ideology is what drives our modern electoral system: whomsoever prevaricates most convincingly wins.
This site, my home on the internet, is one in which I address whatever happens to be troubling me at the moment. Essays, editorials, and general notions are posted herein, to all of which, I must inform you, I hold the copyright. Also included are poems I find interesting, quotes I feel are irresistable, and links I frequent. I am open to discussion, so if you agree, disagree, or feel that I have taken something out of context, please, send them to me! There is a space at the bottom of this page wherein you are allowed to do so. I will be happy to incorporate your comments into a discourse of ideas to be created at a later date. Anyone sending a message to me must recognize that the message will be quoted in whole or in part.
Update for February
In honor of Black History Month, my Poems Instant for February will be by African American poets. For more resources, click here for the Harlem Renaissance page; or use Yahoo! or Google and look up one of the following:
Throughout Black History Month, I will change some of the names above. Be sure to look them up. No matter what you think about Black History Month, learning something new is always a good thing.
I am currently a graduate student in English at North Carolina State University. The image to the left is our lovely belltower, appearing as a sketch on nearly every official document issued by this institution. The clock, fittingly enough, is always off by several minutes in any given direction, and the bells seemingly strike their chorus when they choose. The sidebar includes a link to my literature site: containing an assortment of links, essays, and like material related to Literary works. It isn't particularly exciting, or in most cases even revelatory; however, it is a part of who I am and is what consumes most of my time outside the home.
My wife, a middle school Language Arts teacher, is always telling her parents that the most important thing they can do for their child is to get them to read. Many parents worry about the content of the myriad books available for children. The folks at The Reading Tub have therefore begun a site providing reviews of these books by parents and kids. I encourage you all to follow the banner below and support this site. If you have news or comments regarding Children's Literacy, I encourage you to e-mail me. Again, this is a great thing. Please follow the banner.

Send me questions, comments, or whatever you choose. If you want a reply, include an email address.
The form, unfortunately, is not working yet. Feel free, however, to e-mail me.
