The Assassin's Eye

Prologue

A chill stabs Kelben spine as he tries to duck from the blasted wizard's lightning bolt… 
"Damn it old man! I was just wandering about!"- Kelben cries out loud to the bitter wizard. 
"O where ye? Inside me tower? With yer stikin' hands all over me stuff?"- the old man smirks… "Pesky little thief! I should banish you to one of the lower plane…"- the wizard shouts. 
The wizard start casting a spell but a voice interrupts his enchantment… "Calm yerself, Vangerdahast!" the sage of Shadowdale demanded. "But…" Vangerdahast, cries 
"No but! Shut yer mouth and let me talk to this rogue, to this strange rogue."- The sage, wearing a long red robe, calmly smoking his pipe and with an extremely big longsword on his hip, turns to the oddly looking rogue- "So what's yer name O fiendish one?".
 Indeed kelben was a fiendish being: little horns on his head, purple eyes, sharp teeth and a faint odor of sulphur were his primarily features, the features of a Tiefling.
"My name's Kelben"- the confused rogue answered.
"Well met Kelben! And me name's Elminster of Shadowdale, commonly known as the Sage of Shadowdale. Please sit and enjoy a cup of good wine with an old fool like me"- Elminster said with a big and warm smile crossing his face.
Now Kelben was caught completely off-guard, the invitation hit him harder than any sword thrust he had ever received. He enters into a wizard's tower, not a wise thing in the Realms, expecting to score some minor items to sell on the Blackmarket, and, instead of a fine and clean robbery, he gets caught, nearly hit by a blasted wizard's lightning bolt, and another old mage appears from nowhere and ask him to sit and drink wine? Another thing that intrigued him was the first mage, the one who caught him, old with gray-white hair, that seems to be other mage's apprentice! 
"What do you want from me? I'm just a street thief, nothing more! If you want to punish me, do it, but I would retaliate!"- the thief threatened.
Elminster almost laugh at the idea! Indeed this thief had some power and potential, but it had, too, a corrupted hearth, corrupted by his own devilish blood. The thief could never win the round, not with the Sage of Shadowdale. "A little chat and a glass of wine, nothing more… and perhaps a gift from me to ye."
"Why would you want to give me a gift? I've just tried to rob you!"-the Tiefling retorted.
"Well… We could say that, higher powers, beyond ye and even meself, are interested in yer person…"- the old sage clarifies as he motioned to Vangerdahast to get some wine.
"Higher powers?"- the confused rogue asks.
"Yes, higher powers… The ones ye shouldn't mess with…"- Elminster threatened as he grabbed the bottle his apprentice just brought and filled a glass.
Elminster tastes the wine and starts to weave his hands and chanting something. Kelben grows nervous as tiny lights start to appear in front of the old wizard. Kelben almost fainted when a small glass eye appear floating in front of the wizard.
"It is yers, if ye want it…"- Elminter says- "It is an artifact of great power and almost priceless. It'll please your corrupted blood."
Vangerdahast almost scream out loud in anger and confusion. That is the Eye of the Dark Breed, the apprentice thinks to himself. Why is his master, a chosen of a good goddess, delivering an evil, and intelligent, artifact to a thief's hands?
"What does it do?"- the confused Tiefling asks.
"It pleases yer corrupted blood… Now… GET OUT OF ME TOWER!!!"- the sage screamed in a thundering voice.
 Kelben runs to the outside of the tower- some objects of the mage falling into his pockets during the run- and then to the center of the town of Shadowdale…
"Mystra teaches in complicated ways"- the confused Vangerdahast tries to comprehend.
"Indeed, me old friend, indeed…"
