The founder, Steve York has been engaged with his own commitments to realising a better world for up to six years when he left Civil Engineering to enter Landscape Architecture on the way to Permaculture Design.
Frustrated at the obstacles faced, he began to realise that regardless of his own commitments towards a better world for all, his dependancies on society meant that social barriers needed to be considered.
Setting out in January 2006, guided by inspiration of the possibilities and trusting intuition, Realise A Better World was born. Steve found that there were a number of individuals and groups that were all making small independant inroads to a better world.
"Basically they were all competing independantly for the same goals. Realise formed out of a need to unite these individuals and groups into a single united movement with common goals (such as working towards good quality, 'common', human needs). As in any movement, people must choose to participate. So raising awareness has become the most effective way for the movement to engage these individuals in a positive way and groups and provide opportunities for making wise decisions. Once they have made a commitment to a better world for all they need support and encouragement to maintain their efforts. In essence it is a 'culture of wisdom' that is required to effectively move towards a better world for all".
Steve attempts to be a good example and demonstrate that a variety of options of lifestyle changes that move towards a better world for all are available to most of us in our daily lives. He has a passion for creating things that grow and are positive for everyone. Realise A Better World inspires and motivates him that humankind is something that we all hold in common and our common goals are worthy of striving for.
