It's amazing how music and memory are intertwined.  Driving along and hearing a familiar melody can instantly transport you miles (and years) away.  That's certainly the case with the album, particularly the classic track "Whiter Shade of Pale".  That happens to be the song that was playing the first time I ever slow danced with a girl (7th grade school dance), let alone had a chance to touch a female butt.  Always loved to cool, black and white cover !  It just seemed perfect Gary Booker and company's pensive sound.

Sure it's clearly inspired by Sgt. Pepper.  Imitiatition isn't necessarily a bad thing.  Besides, the LP provided us with countless moments of entertainment looking at the host of symbols and objects pictured.  (True, our lives were fairly dull during that time period.)

Ah the Tempts !!!  One of my favorite 60s soul groups.  Sadly, Motown's arts department seldom managed to live up to the music side of the house.  This was one of the more imaginative designs to come out of the Berry Gordy Jr. empire ...

We just liked the comic book look part 2 ...  By the way this is an overlooked classic LP.  Buy it now !

Admittedly there isn't anything particularly original about this cover.  On the other hand you have to admire anyone willing to pose for a picture (let alone an album cover), looking as fey as the late Tiny Tim.

This is another one that's hard to explain.  There's just something cool about the cold, modernistic cover.  That and we've always though autobahns were cool.

All of Trower's early-'70s LPs are wonderful.  as such, it was hard to decide which geometric pattern to pick ...  This one just happened to be handy.

Roger Dean (of Yes fame) steps up to the plate to deliver his first Uriah Heep cover.

Since we included "Demons & Wizards" in ourlist of picks, it only made sense of include "Magician's Birthday" (which to ours eyes has an even more stunning cover.  The color palette is certainly more stunning and (in case you actually care about the music), the LP is actually more consistent than "Demons & WIzards".
