The unit was raised during late 1984, and was open for recruitment during April 1985. Before this it was part of Gosford High School. The first commanding Officer was Captain Alan Singh, assisting him were Captain Paul Drakos and Lieutenant Trudy Heip. During early 1986, Major Bob Fowler (A retired regular Army Warrant Officer took over as CO and resigned his appointment in 1993. Captain Carol Nicholson took over as Officer Commanding (OC) in 1993. (The change from Commanding Officer to Officer Commanding was a directive from Headquarters due to rank structure). Captain David Forsberg assumed the post OC in 1996 and left in 2000 to pursue a career in AAC Headquaters where he now holds the rank of Major. Several hundred personel have become members of the defence forces. Ex members have also become members of the reserve forces, while others have become members of the NSW Police force. A CUO was selected to represent the AAC on an excusion to Korea on invitation of the Korean and Australian Defence Forces association. The present unit badge worn by members of 25 RCU is a design of the ST. Edward Crown, crossed sword and torch of learning which is the emblem of the AAC. The background of blue with waves and dolphin depict the Central Coast area.
