"Operation Lingap"
A disaster relief for Mt. Mayon Evacuees
August 18-19, 2001
Tabaco, Albay
In partnership with the RC of Tabaco-Mayon headed by Pres. Noel Bien and DZLB

A relief drive was launched 6 August through DZLB, in response to Pres. Noel's call for help to displaced farmers-victims of Mayon volcano eruptions. Cash or in kind donations (medicines, food items, blankets, clothing, towels) were accepted, primarily from the UP Los Baņos community. Total cash collected was P27, 950. This was used to buy rice, canned sardines, corned beef, sugar, milk, noodles and 200 packets of vegetable seeds from UP LB. Together with the medicines, clothing, towels and blankets, we were able to bring enough (in 2 vehicles, rice was bought there) for 165 families cramped in 14 classrooms inn San Antonio Elem. School, Tabaco, one of 7 evacuation centers. Eighty copies of a book on Vegetable Production (translated in Bicolano) written by PP Ruben L. Villareal were also distributed to the farmers.
These farming families are residents of Barangay Magapo, located 5.5 km from the crater of Mayan Volcano, considered a permanent danger zone.
The project cemented the friendship between the two clubs, which resulted in the signing of a sisterhood agreement right at the evacuation center.
