About Rotary Club of Los
Baños-Makiling
The Rotary club of Los Baños Makiling (RCLB Makiling) was born
in 1999. District Governor Special Representative Ruben Villareal
led in organizing this new club, whose members are all women.
The organizational meeting of the club, attended by about 40 women with diverse specializations and a strong commitment to serve humanity, was held on 24 August 1999 at the Balai Internet Café in the SEARCA Dormitory, University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) campus. The club represents a microcosm of the community it serves. Los Baños is a
center of excellence in the arts, science and technology, and
education.
On 1 December 1999, RCLB Makiling was officially recognized as a charter organization by the Rotary International. Club officers, who were elected on 7 September 1999, were inducted, along with charter members, on 10 February 2000 at Anest Tower, Los Baños. Dean of Students, Dr. Vivian Gonzales of UPLB is the charter president.
In 2000, RCLBM went through its share of birth pains, losing members who moved to other jobs and locations, but gaining new ones and learning from lessons and experiences as it continually matured. Dean Ayds Adalla of the Office of Student Affairs succeeded Dean Gonzalez.
IPP Cora Villareal became president in 2001. During this year, the club garnered three district awards distributed during the District Turnover in HongKong, including Outstanding Club, Outstanding President, and Vocational Service Award.
President Eli Libas, a communication and extension education
specialist, takes over the helm of the club this Rotary year.
Starting in 2001, the club met every Wednesday noon at Anest Towers, and once a month, it joins up with RCLB in a fellowship-meeting. This Rotary year, the club meets at 10975 Camia St. Faculty Village at the UPLB Campus every Friday at 6 p.m.It produces the weekly
Luntian Tanawin, the official communication organ that was conceived as a vehicle for Rotary information, a showcase to mirror the worthwhile activities of Rotarians as a way to encourage and inspire members to relentlessly pursue their ideals and mission, and a documentation of the various ongoing service projects and activities of RCLB
Makiling. RCLB Makiling has forged sisterhood pacts with RC Cubao
East, RC Midtown Quezon City (D 3780), RC Tabaco Mayon, and Malaysia
based RC Kuala Terengganu (D 3300). Together with its sister club,
RCLB Makiling has undertaken various community and vocational
service projects.
In partnership with its father club, RCLB, the Club is strengthening ties with various organizations in the Los Baños community and sister Rotary clubs, and undertaking more impact-driven community projects with the ultimate goal of helping the community grow and develop.
