Opening The TC Transmission
before you tear into the truck: you should only perform the mod described here if youve tried adjusting your needle and shift-point settings. call tamiya customer service ( 1-800-tamiya-a ) and ask them about the problem before you begin.
Disclaimer: i am not reponsible for any dammage attained to your truck while following the procedures desrcibed here. you perform the following at your own risk. do not attempt this procedure if you are unsure as to your ability to complete it. please read the entire procedure over before you begin.
disassembly: you should be able to complete this entire procedure with simply a small/large phillips screwdriver, a pair of pliers/e-clip tool, and your supplied 4-way wrench and small allen wrench.
take the body off your truck. remove the radio gear cover and set aside. disconnect/remove your receiver pack and set aside. use a ruler to find exactly how far the rod protrudes from the grapple for the clutch disengauge rod (the one going into the transmission) and write the distance down. use your small allen wrench to loosen the grub screw hodling it in place.puch the servo-arm back but let the rod stay int he same position so that you slide the rod out fo the grapple. follow your throttle linkage to the carb, then dosconnect the linkage the same way you did the other. the brake linkage is very sensitive and id dint feel like trying to get it right, so what i did was folllowed the linkage to the brake arm. the grapple is inverted here, and the e-clip is on top. i usde my e-clip tool to remove the clip, then slid the end of the grapple out of the brake rod. place all linkages so that the transmission can come striaght up and not come in contact with them.
flip your truck over, so you have access to all the screws on the bottom. make sure your fuel tank is empty and your exhaust pipe is also empty, of youll have a mess in a hurry. whiel looking at the underside of the truck, you shoudl see two bolts near the middle of the chassis, very close to the plastic chassis braces. remove these and your rollover rod should come off with a slight pull.next, you will need to disocnnect your universal joints. there are two of them. one for the front differential and one for the rear. place your truck on one side, so that two wheels are held solidly on the ground and 2 are free to spin in the air. pick a wheel and turn it slowly. look at the grey universal joints. on the ends of them, there is a grub screw. it is actually a brub screw with a long, unthreaded attatchment that goes through the shaft. only one side is threaded, so youll ahve to rotate the wheel untill you see the threaded end. your smallest allen wrench fits the screw. after some serious frustration trying to remove these myself, i suggest you take out all four allen screws. you can then slide the universal joints toward the differentials. after this is done, flip the truck over. remove the sheild covering the spur and pinion gear. now, remove the  six screws holding the transmission in.it may tke a bit of rotating, pushing to one side or the other, or  jiggling around, but the transmission WILL come out. you dont have to remove the motor. once you ahve the transmission out, put the truck aside, as you wont need it untill you put the tranny back in. there are 7 (i think) screws holding the two tranny parts together. some on bottom, some on top. once you remove them all, a slight tug will pop the two peices apart. carefully pull the two peices apart. the peice with the spur gear should contain only the stepped pinion. set the two parts down on the table. if you look at the shafts protruding from the bigger side of thecase, theyre may or may not be some bearings that stayed on the shafts when you removed look in the smalled side to se eif there is a bearing everywhere a shaft exits. there should be. if there isnt, put one there off the shaft it rest on. now, you have the smaller side and the bgiger side. the smaller side can now be set aside, as all your work willb e done in the bigger side. in the bigger side, you will need to turn it around and remove the brake disks. take off the e-clip and then remove the peice hodking thepads on and remove the pads with it. if you push on the silver protruding from th case and the ahaft below it,  your top and bottom shaft should either fall out of your transmission or protrude even more. with some slight shaking and/or more pushinf, both top and bottom shafts should come out. the shaft with the large metal clutchbell is the top shaft, the shaft with the two very large gears is the bottom shaft.
