LEARNING EXPERIENCES
Learning experiences at the Pre-Kindergarten
level provide opportunities for children to develop oral language,
math awareness, social competencies, and science concepts
that are the foundation for growth and learning at the primary
level. Teachers develop these experiences around a specific
topic, theme, or question. No matter what sparks the idea
for a learning experience, concepts related to that experience
are integrated across content areas. For example, as children
are learning to categorize objects according to shape, size,
color, or texture, they are also learning words which describe
each of the objects and categories, as will as how to work
cooperatively with their peers to complete a task.
CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION
The overall goal of curriculum and instruction
at the Pre-K level is to build a foundation for lifelong learning
and achievement of the New York State Learning Standards.
Our program implements various strategies which are based
on knowledge of how children develop and learn. as well as
what they already know and what they need to know and be able
to do. We believe that learning should be interactive, interdisciplinary
and connected. In doing so, we provide for a balance between
individual and group needs, active and quiet times and between
teacher directed and child selected activities.
Our learning environment provides an array
of materials which students use to explore and find answers
to their questions assuring that children will enter Kindergarten
prepared to face the challenges, ready to continue to learn
and to succeed. |
