SCHOOL BUS TRANSPORTATION
The Education Law requires all non-city districts to provide
transportation for pupils enrolled in Grades K-8 who live
more than two miles from the school they attend. There are
limits, which vary from district to district and the nearest
available route from home to school measures distances. In
order to obtain transportation, parents should file requests
with the district in which they live by April 1st of the preceding
school year or within 30 days of moving into the district.
If you have questions, please ask at the main office.
PARKING LOT SAFETY
Please park your car in designated parking spots only. Please
do not allow your child to walk or run to the building unsupervised
from the parking lot. Also, please never leave your child
in the car, your car running in the parking lot, or your keys
in the car. Help us to ensure the safety of all children in
our care.
AUTHORIZATION TO PICK UP YOUR CHILD
No child will be released to a person not authorized by a
parent or guardian to pick up the child. We must have written
or verbal authorization for any changes. In the event the
child is picked up by someone with whom we are not familiar,
picture identification will be necessary; for example; a New
York State Department of Motor Vehicles License.
VISITORS
Visitors to the school are frequent and welcome. In order
to sustain the integrity of our open campus and also be helpful
to our visitors, we ask that all visitors without scheduled
appointments sign in (and out) with the main office and receive
an appropriate visitors badge.
FIELD TRIPS
We encourage parents to accompany their child on many of the
educationally enriching outings offered as part of the Raynor
Country Day School's annual academic program.
However, there are occasions where we are
unable to accommodate all the parent volunteers who wish to
accompany their child's class. In these cases, parents will
be selected on a rotating basis to participate. Parents will
be notified if they have been selected to accompany the class.
This procedure will enable everyone to have an opportunity
to volunteer and enjoy some wonderful memories with their
child.
STUDENT TEXTBOOKS
Textbooks are provided through your home school district in
accordance with the New York State Textbook Law. Textbooks
are distributed by Westhampton BOCES. Textbook forms are available
in the Raynor Country Day School main office or through your
local school district. Families are responsible for picking
up textbooks during the summer and dropping off textbooks
at the end of the school year. Families will be contacted
through the mail as to the exact dates that textbooks will
be made available. Please note that families are directly
responsible for replacing any damaged, lost or stolen textbooks.
SNACK & LUNCH
Pre-Kindergarten through 3rd Grade parents are requested to
send two healthy snacks daily. Suggested are apples, oranges,
raisins, vegetable sticks, Jell-O, etc. Please do not send
your child to school with candy. Occasionally, your child
will have the opportunity to prepare a special food at school
for snack.
Raynor Country Day School will provide daily
lunch service for all students at a cost of $3.25. Menus will
be distributed monthly and lunch order forms weekly. If lunch
from home is preferred, please put your child's name on his/her
lunch box, cups, lids, bowls or plates sent to school. If
you would like your child to have a warm lunch, please heat
the meal in the morning and put it in a thermos-type container.
This will ensure that the meal stays warm by lunch time. If
your child's lunch needs to stay cold, please use an ice pack.
Pizza days are the 1st and 3rd Fridays of each month.
MONTHLY CALENDAR
The teachers frequently send home monthly calendars to inform
parents of school events. In many cases this monthly calendar
serves as the only form of notification of an event. It compliments
(and often amends) the yearly calendar which is mailed to
your home in August.
NEWSLETTER
The school publishes a fall, winter and spring newsletter
containing articles of interest to Raynor Country Day School
families. It covers topics of interest, reports on past events,
highlights of upcoming events, profiles members of the Raynor
community and makes announcements of general interest.
NO GUNS, WAR TOYS OR OTHER TOYS OF DESTRUCTION
These items are not permitted in school. A child must have
constructive means to express feelings of aggression. For
our younger children, we suggest clay to pound (manual dexterity),
a punching bag (to vent anger while developing perceptual
abilities) or finger paints (to soothe jangled feelings while
practicing a developmental rhythmic movement). Please refer
to our Code of Conduct for consequences of destructive behavior.
MAKE-UP WORK POLICY
Because absences occur among students, and because it needs
to be clarified to them what is expected of them under these
circumstances, the following guidelines are given:
1. Illness - If it is possible for your child
to complete assignments while out of school for illness and
arrangements can be made to obtain the books and work, call
the office early in the day and let the office administrator
know that you need the work and how you will obtain it (sibling,
another student, your picking it up). Teachers need time to
gather materials and write down assignments. It would be helpful
to note what books your child already has at home. If your
child cannot, due to illness, complete the assignments, a
signed note to that effect should be sent when the child returns.
Students out of school for a prolonged period of time due
to illness may be eligible for tutoring by contacting their
home district. See the principal for more information.
2. Unexcused Absence - Your child is
expected to do school work during unexcused absences. If possible,
requests should be made in advance in a note signed by you.
We would appreciate your cooperation in seeing that the work
is completed. If the work is not requested, the student should
expect makeup work when he/she returns, and you should be
aware that this will probably necessitate extra homework time
on the student's part and assistance from the parent as well.
Students out of school for a prolonged period of time due
to unexcused absences as defined in our attendance policy
will be required to have tutoring provided by the parent in
order to stay current with classwork.
