Prayer and Meditation

What is the difference between prayer and meditation?
Prayer is talking; Meditation is listening.

Prayer doesn't change God, prayer changes us; especially affirmative prayer, it prepares our consciousness to receive the good that already exists!

The prayer or blessing you say at the beginning of any event, including meditation, meals, a job interview, or an upcoming stressful situation should set the mood. Its purpose is to attune you to Spirit, or whatever you call God, and put you in a receptive state of mind.
Then, you can create a sacred place in your mind to meditate, pray, give thanks, or just relax in the light and love -- I go there often to replenish my soul. Here are the steps I use...

  1. Relax the body; see yourself surrounded by white light.
  2. Silence the mind. Letting thoughts pass by without giving them any thought energy. They will become like a train passing by; you can watch them indifferently or jump aboard. Try to view them on the back of you eyelids as if you were watching a movie. Eventually they will stop. If not, try focusing on your breaths and counting them to ten, then start over. If your mind wanders, begin counting breaths again from 1. Mainly, don't resist and don't be afraid. Know that you are protected and loved.
  3. Meditate by focusing on whatever it is you want: love, wholeness, wealth, or joy.
  4. Contemplate the feeling of wholeness (or whichever you chose), without thought and listen for intuition to guide you or ask to be taken in your dreams where you can learn. Something that helped me in the beginning, was to feel and visualize the word I was focusing on in blue light, like a huge neon sign in the sky.

A Meditation for Protection

Before you go out, see your destination bathed in blue light. Blue is for peace, and is also a pain reliever. You can also do this for anyone or any place...like communities or countries where there is unrest.
If you encounter negative energy from someone, see it bouncing off you aura, as if surrounded in a bubble of light.
Think to yourself, "This isn’t my anger, sorrow, tension (or whatever). I let it go back to its source with love." When you get home, bathe in comfortably warm water with a scented essential oil or combination like lavender, ylang ylang, and rose. This will cleanse you on all levels. As you bathe, sense the spirits of water and earth cleansing and grounding you. If that isn’t possible, get into the sunlight and let Father Sun (Father/Son) do the cleansing.
Forgive, lest you hold the negativity to you. Forgiving is not condoning, its saying, I can let this go, it isn’t mine and it cannot harm me farther.

Prayer of Protection

The light of God surrounds me

The love of God enfolds me

The power of God protects me

The presence of God watches over me

Wherever I am, God is.
