The Hidden -
Linda Hays-Gibbs
Gray world blended into the night then creeped through gardens,
clouding definitions of time and space. The female was terrified,
frozen; silently she slinked back under the dark into the recesses
to blend. Darkness fell over her eyes like liquid ink. She tossed
her head slightly to remove it from her vision. Exaggerated
shrieks, calls from unknown directions, imagined creatures, her ears
were palpitating with her own heart beats. Jasmine floated through
jungle air into her nostrils, reassuring her of beauty's fragrance.
Closing her eyes, she drank essence of night.
Linda Hays-Gibbs is a 56 year old Grandmother of 4, 3 boys and 1 girl and
mother of 3, 2 boys and 1 daughter. Her passion for poetry goes back to
her first memories of childhood. She used to make up songs on the swing
when she was only 4. She loves Edgar Allen Poe, who is her inspiration.
Linda has written several songs and short stories; she hopes to write
science fiction. She is an avid Trekie from way back.
Linda has an AS in Computer Science from Shelton State Community College
and a BA with a major in Anthropology and a minor in Creative Writing from
the University of Alabama. She does geneology research for Native
Americans, searching for past ties. She is divorced and lives with her
great niece Angel and around her children, Bea, Curtis and Ricky and
grandkids, Slade, Sailey, Mason
and Carson.
