Artist Statement

For the assemblage artist life becomes a continuous treasure hunt, a gathering and a recalling, capturing moments, secrets, fabricated and anticipated realities. Inspired by themes in the spiritual and mystical realms, I find the mysterious and ambiguous walls of assemblage lend themselves magically to an alchemical transformation. The act of creating and interpreting these works becomes a serendipitous maze through the subconscious, and an experiment with creating illusions.

Deborah Hayner studied design, fine art and illustration at the Academy of Art in San Francisco. She has studied art continuously since her adolescence in one form or another and continues to study today. Today Deborah is involved in digital art, assemblage, watercolor painting, and mixed media on multiple surfaces. She works largely with found objects and discarded or vintage remnants. Her work has been described as Vintage Modernism.
