"Christianity started out in Palestine as a fellowship; it moved to Greece and became a philosophy; it moved to Italy and became an institution; it moved to Europe and became a culture; it came to America and became an enterprise." Sam Pascoe, American scholar.

If you are not comfortable with having your beliefs challenged you would probably not want to read this. If you wish, however, to expand your knowledge about Christianity and Jesus, then you are at the right place.

The Christian religion is the world's largest religion today and still plays a powerful role in the lives of billions. It has its roots in Israel in a person Christians call Jesus Christ. Most Christians believe Jesus to be the son of God or God himself. (According to Mark, he was a man; according to Matthew and Luke, he was a demigod; John says that he was God.) Many Christians believe that all humans are born as sinners and will all go to hell unless they are saved by Jesus. They are monotheist to a degree. They worship the Trinity which consists of: The Father, Son and Holy Spirit. They are separate but form unity. The book that they hold sacred is the Bible, which consists of the Jewish books and the New Testament that records Jesus' life and teachings. Central to their belief is that Jesus was born of a virgin mother, Mary and is the descendant of David in fulfillment of the prophecy of the messiah. They also hold dear the crucifixion of Jesus where he was nailed to a cross and died but was resurrected three days later. The crucifixion is very symbolic to them since they believe Jesus died for their sins. The cross (a crucifix) is the symbol of their faith (originally the symbol was the fish).

In the Bible, the holy book of Christians, not much of Jesus is recorded. Only a brief period of his life is recorded which generally spreads 1-3 years depending on the gospel. The gospels also have a lot of confusion amongst themselves. They tend to disagree (sample) on a lot of points. History also has none or little record of him. Non-religious history on his life does not exist, other than the famous forgery by the Church, where they inserted a section in Josephus' (Jewish historian) book and those that refer to it. This leads some to question if he really existed. Yet the short and dramatic description of his life (a chronology of his life ignoring the discrepancies in the gospels) brings inspiration to billions.

Jesus' real name was something like Isuf-Jai, and was known in different lands by different names, ranging from Yeshuah (Jewish), Issah(Arabic), Yuz Asaf  to Issar, etc. Jesus is the anglicized or maybe rather the Greek/Roman version of his name. "Christ" is often mistaken to be his last name but is the Greek word for messiah or anointed one. Much of his life can actually be pieced from non-Christian sources rather than what the New Testament says.

According to the gospels, Jesus was born in Nazareth but the gospels disagree on exactly when he was born. It is now thought that he might have been born sometime around the 4-7 BC. His birth anniversary, the 25th of December comes from Rome as does much of the traditions of the religion. His birthday was February 7th of the western Calendar (not January 6th as some Christians sects believe). It appears that early in his life he was taken to Egypt by his parents where he might have been exposed to Buddhism. (At that time Buddhism was being exported to even as far as Greece.) When he was thirteen he went to India. There he spent about 26 years of his life when his spiritual beliefs took shape.

Towards 30, he left home and went on a trek to spread spiritual wisdom. His life is recorded in various temples from India to Asia Minor. In Jerusalem, many Jewish people took his teachings with Judaic teachings to form the nucleus of Christianity and a cult formed around his teachings. Later, however, he was crucified as a common criminal. Three days after the crucifixion he was seen again, which to many, was miraculous and made him legendary. His teachings mixed in with various other doctrines quickly spread. Many different forms of his teachings or teachings in his name were formulated and many different accounts of his life were recorded in the myriad of gospels and other texts. All these texts claimed authority of different people associated with him.

It was finally in Rome where Christianity got its final form where 4 of the many gospels were chosen. The christian Roman cult gradually overwhelmed all others and became the official Christianity and was sponsored by the emperor of Rome. All other books that were Christian but not authorized were considered heretic and were banned. These books, however, are just as reliable or unreliable as any of the gospels accepted by the Roman cult.

Jesus' life as recorded by the Roman cult is rather limited. They preached that Jesus' life ended with the resurrection, which is not the case. Jesus lived on and moved to India and settled in Kashmir where he died at the age of 73. His life, beyond ressurection is recorded in many temples around the world including the Buddhist monastery in Ladakh, Kashmir. Todays Christians, who inherit the teachings of the Roman cult are unaware of much of their beloved Jesus, including his life.

To understand the modern Christianity, we have to look at a much older religion, Mithraism, a religion akin to Hindu. The God of Mithraism was Mithra (Mitra, Mithras), an ancient God of the ancient Persians and Hindus also known as the "Aryan" Sun God. The Persians and Hindus at one time had a very similar faith. They worshipped Gods Varuna and Mithra who, according to myth, were twins. Later the two people's faiths diverged and underwent massive change. Hindus relegated Varuna and other Gods to adopt Shiva as their chief deity, later incorporated in the trimurti of Brahma/Vishnu/Shiva. Mithra was relegated by Zoroaster when he preached his faith in which Ahura Mazda became the chief deity.

However, cults of Mithra survived in different forms. This God spread through Asia minor and entered Greece and Rome. During the 1st century BC, a cult of Mithra, made much progress in Rome, after enduring persecution, when some emperors adopted the religion.  (This religion may have also influenced the Celtic religions.) Mithra became very popular among the Roman legionaries and later even among the emperors. The worship of Mithra was first recognized by Emperor Aurelian and he instituted the cult of "Sol Invictus" or the Invincible Sun. Emperor Diocletian also a worshipper of Mithra, the Sun God, burned much of the Christian scriptures in 307 A.D.

This enabled Emperor Constantine to merge the cult of Mithra with that of Christianity that was developing much. He declared himself a Christian but at the same time maintained his ties to the Mithra cult. He retained the title "Pontifus Maximus" the high priest. On his coins were inscribed: "Sol Invicto comiti" which means, commited to the invincible sun. This new blend of the two faiths, he officially proclaimed as Christianity. Christianity spread all over the Roman empire and Eastern Europe by massive persecution and brought and end to a variety of religions that flourished there. There efforts were so successful that today's Christians descendants of those that were forced into Christianity have no knowledge of the bloody expansion of Christianity and the tyranny of the church that was formed out of the modified temple of Mithra, in the name of Jesus. The trail of of Christian expansion all over the world is filled with atrocities.

In 313 A.D., Emperor Constantine declared December 25th to be the birthday of Jesus (December 25th was prescribed earlier as the birthday of Mithra, by emperor Aurelian). Sabbath day, which is literally Saturday (as the Jews still maintain), became Sunday as it was the day of the Sun, another element from the Mithra worship.

Until the fourth century, Mithra and Christianity were distinct but after Constantine, the two cults were blended to form the new faith that was to conquer most of the world. Much of the Mithra cult practices and temple structure survive in Christianity. One can easily see the rituals in the church that has no relation to the Bible. These have roots either in the Mithra cult or in other existing religions that later Christians dubbed "pagan". In a way the prophet of modern christianity is Constantine. In 325 AD at the Nicean Council, under Constantine, Jesus received divine status as the son of God. When some bishops felt he had gone too far, Constantine said they were required to accept it. He also declared original chiristians that did not follow his brand of christianity (modern christianity) as heretics and started the first persecution. Hiding books of Arius, which did not follow the Constantine line was punishable by death. Nicea is important because this marked the beginning of the end of some of Jesus' teachings on reincarnation and some believe Karma and Dharma.

Jesus was exposed to Buddhism in Egypt and India where he grew up. He travelled extensively through out the middle east at a time when Buddhist missionaries frequented that region. In Israel he made an impact on some Jews. Here his teachings  took root and the nucleus of Christianity was formed. This nucleus was a mix with Jewish beliefs as the Jews who accepted his teachings also retained Judaism  as their religion. They followed both Judaism and Jesus. He was eventually crucified but survived and went back to India where he lived to an old age. However, his appearance after his death was remarkable for most. Soon he became a legend and cults grew around him. These cults were basically Jewish but some were based on other "pagan" religions.  The cult spread through Greece to Rome and here it received its final form with a new prophet, the emperor Constantine. Emperor Constantine was the high priest of the Mithra cult. He combined the christian cult with the Mithra cult and suppressed the other cults. This was the formation of a new Roman cult. They eliminated whatever did not think fitted their agenda including many gospels that were all over the Roman empire. This cult soon became the only cult and evolved into modern christianity. If one wants to understand christianity, one would have to understand its evolution and also include the Jesus lived beyond the crucifixion.

NOTE: The genealogies given in the gospels of Matthew and Luke disagree in the individuals and even the number of generations. Matthew says there were forty-one generations from Abraham to Jesus while Luke says there were fifty-six. But there is even a graver consequence of the genealogy. If Jesus is born of a virgin (some try to say virgin = young woman, but here it is literal since he was supposed to be conceived by the holy spirit and not any human) as the basic Christian belief claims, then he is not the biological son of Joseph, and thus he is not descended from David in fulfillment of the prophecy for Messiahship. So either he was born of virgin and not the Messiah or he was an illegitimate child with no miracle to his birth but was the Messiah. And then he was not son of God... which breaks down the trinity.
