Earlier we
discussed a little bit about me... and you found this little page
about my place of work.:-)

I decided to
include a few images from work, since it is, honestly something I do
enjoy doing.
Here's the
drill... I've posted thumbnail images below for you to choose from...
along with some information about each photo posted. If you want to
see a bigger version of the photo, all you have to do is click the
photo and a new page will pop up with the full sized photo.:-)
This is my shuttle van...
the faithful number 44.:-) It's a large bus, equipped to hold 12
passengers in comfort, WITH their luggage, and of course, their
friendly neighborhood shuttle driver... namely ME, who will safely
convey them through all the hazards that exist from our parking lot ,
to the Airport terminals.
These hazards
include, taxi-drivers without sanity and cars driven by lawyers at 60
mph in a 45 mph zone who compound the problem by yacking it up on
their cell phone, which IS of course, permanently and irrevocably
welded to the side of their face. Tack on a few travelers who are
understandably not familiar with the airport area itself...(The
airport serves a pretty large region... so people that don't travel a
lot do tend to feel a little disoriented.) and the standard road
hazards... it makes for a fun day!
Other hazards,
include the weather... you give me a wind with 40 MPH gusts... and
even make it a crosswind... I can absolutely assure you, that life
becomes quite interesting for me as a driver... I can handle any
weather you throw at me... but when you consider the obvious
hazard... (The other drivers on the road at the time), I could do
without the weather making my life miserable. Bad weather makes the 1
mile trip from parking lot to Airport, seem more like 20 miles...
The handling
charactaristics of this shuttle are amazingly lousy... you do NOT
stop a vehicle of this size on a dime... Nor do you even DARE try to
turn it on a dime... Either act, if attempted, can very easily invoke
the magic word that hurts the wallet... "Deductible". Not
to mention... it's a very nice way to screw up an otherwise enjoyable
day... After all... who would like to volunteer to sit in their
shuttle van, whilst it lays on its side in the middle of KY 212? I
know I sure wouldn't... that luggage I get to play with everyday is
heavy enough to carry... much less wear as an impromptu accessory to
my baseball cap on my noggin.:-)
(So
some friendly advice... be nice to the shuttle drivers out there...
don't cut them off or pull 'right' in front of them... much as they'd
love to stop and not hit you... they can only stop these big ole vans
so quickly. Give the van drivers a little extra room to stop... We
love meeting nice people... just not by accident, if you catch my drift.:-))
This shuttle, is
quite candidly, a huge target for any person who forgets how to drive
their car... I've had more than one knucklehead attempt to park his
or her vehicle, at full speed with a sudden stop, INSIDE my van...
Fortunately for them... evasive action, alertness on my part... and a
whole hell of a lot of luck, have thusfar made all attempts to wreck
into me, unsuccessful. Now if you'll excuse me... I need to go knock
on every piece of wood between Newport and Los Angeles...:-)
I have a pretty
nice team of drivers working on any given shift with me... The
Airport Allright team is chock full of good folks, who for the
mostpart, really like what they're doing for a living. Once I've had
a chance to talk to a few of the gang... and secure their permissions
to do so, I might share a few pictures of them here online. (Note...
no picture I show, will contain a 'clear' shot of our customers, or
of their vehicles... it wouldn't be right to impose upon their
privacy in that fashion.)
I've said I've had
the chance to meet fun and interesting people on the job, and that's
very true... We have people from all OVER the Greater Cincinnati
area, that park with us on occasion when they must travel. Some hold
some celebrity status in the region... some are just like you and
me...folks going to do a job or enjoy a vaction... but I have yet to
meet anyone, out of all the customers we deal with, that I didn't
think the world of.
Some people, I see
every day, since they work at the CVG Airport in one capacity or another...
Some travel more
seasonally... and yes... some travel quite frequently.
All of us drivers
have certain customers that we keep an eye out for... people that
we've formed a bit of a bond with... that's one of the unwritten
benefits of the job... a chance to make a friend, to hear a new joke,
to see one of the children of our customers do something really neat
that you just don't see everyday... you name it... working for the
company has fantastic benefits, and is ripe for producing memories
that last a lifetime.:-)
