The well guys worked their butts off on Sept. 14 and 15. There's a reason these dudes are burly. They work hard and long hours too.
The well ended up being 240 ft. deep. It's a real producer too! They said it's the best one in the area so far and one of the best they've seen in a long time. Unlike the other wells, it doesn't smell either. Boy was I happy when the water started coming up and everything was looking so good. The downside of a great source is that the ground is gravelly and porous and there is danger of the well caving in while they are diggin. The hole is about 10 inch diameter that they drill. A five inch pipe runs all the way down the hole and this is the casing where the water collects and the sand and gravel is kept from falling in the water. After they put the casing in, they fill the gap between the hole and the casing with sand (better than pea gravel cuz it filters out all the silt). that is as far as they were able to get over the weekend. Next, the inspector signs off on the work, the well guys finish filling around the case with cement, then put the pump down there along with the pipe coming up and the electricity going down. Finally the whole thing gets hooked up to the tank and the generator and we're in business. The final water step will be to move the tank up the hill to get better water pressure. We abandoned the pressure tank idea since gravity is free and (except for the tough job of muscling the tank up the hill) is a simpler way to go.
Woohoo! Excitement at the Limbo! To flush out the hole, they blow air down and the water comes gushing up.
The water coming up out of the hole.
The other side of the same thing. The guys dug a channel so that the water coming up would go down into the pond.
Hard workin' guys for sure. Even though there is a collar to keep the gravel from going back down the hole, they had to keep busy to keep the opening clear.
They even put a pipe out there so it would shoot out instead of eroding the edge of the hill.
And here's the result in action. They actually got the pond level up by about a foot and a half! I had a stupid grin on my face all day just from seeing the pond sort of filled up again.
