[Bama lays out a challenge to some of the conventional thinking on Green. While we do not necessarily advocate the conclusions Bama draws, he does well to try to consider the overall Ram roster situation. We invite those who would like to keep Green to provide a considered view on how doing so could be made to work in the overall Ram roster. --Ed.]

Then you need to consider the following;

You have 2 QBs and in the long run, 1 has to go, since the team can't afford to pay starter's salary to two QBs and have cap money left for other areas.

You have 2 top players at their position that you want to resign this year before they can go FA next year.

Due to a wonderful year, you now have the worst position in the draft.

You have just secured a possible starting OL and a couple of backups for the next 3 years - good job.

You have NO long term stability right now at CB - Ooopps!

You also have some other problems in depth on the DL and LB right now.

Your RB situation is OK, more depth is needed, but you have the best all round runner locked up for 5 years.

You have the envy of the league at WR for this year, and have to secure that for the following year.

You will be extremely cap limited in two years if you can swing the Bruce, Carter and Warner deals.

So you have to do the following, not necessarily in this order;

1. Determine which of the two top players you want to keep first, Carter or Bruce. I go with Carter, who has no one who can replace him on the team, or even in the league. So he is your top priority for the long term.

Bruce falls to second because Holt might be able to step up to his spot, and this year WR is very deep in the draft. There could be 35 WR taken in the draft. That will dilute the market for Bruce next year, like all the QBs did for George this year. At least 5 or 6 of these WR could develop into a Bruce after a year or two.

2. You have to figure out which QB you want for the long run. This means signing Warner or not signing Warner to a long term deal. If the answer is Warner, then you have to deal Green at some time. I say, this year, before the draft.

If the answer is Green, how do you handle Warner, and how do you get any value from him in a trade? Quite simply, if he signs a 1 year deal, you can't. I say you sign him to a long term deal this year.

3. You have to draft to protect those potential problems on D. Which means the first 2 or 3 picks will be D players. Offense picks will be for depth only, and later.

This draft is very deep in a position you don't need (except for depth)- WR and RB. This should leave some good D players early, and some good WR and RB late.

4. There is only 1 way to improve your draft position, trade a player, and the only likely one is Green.

5. There is also only one way to help the cap situation in two years, or allow you to resign both Carter and Bruce, unfortunately it is trade Green.

6. Solution; Sign Warner, Trade Green, Draft D early, O later.
