The Rams had an informal lunch gathering with the media Wednesday, and these were some of the tidbits I was able to glean:

*The off-season program won't officially start until April 3, but players will be able to have organized sessions starting March 13. That's for the guys who can't stay away. Some players are already working out and can't wait to get back at it.

*Martz could have held a third minicamp as a new head coach but elected not to. "What for?" he said to me. "With the same offense and defense, it's not necessary. And we will get a lot accomplished in the off-season program."

*The first minicamp will be the second weekend after the draft.

*At training camp (which will be at Macomb beginning July 21), the Rams hope to practice against the Colts, but it won't be at Champaign. Martz is hopeful of having a home and home with the Colts, traveling to the team's camp site.

*Special teams coach Larry Pasquale has already talked with punter Rick Tuten, who is enthused about Pasquale's arrival. Pasquale told me his philosophy of punting "is to let the kicker do what he does best." A veiled shot at Gansz, who wants to turn every punter into a directional kicker.

*Ricky Proehl is in no danger of being cut because of his salary and cap number. "He is too important in what we do," Martz said. One Rams insider told me, in this cap environment, cutting Proehl would be the logical thing to do, "but how could you?" It would probably be over Martz's dead body.
