What has Trent Green done for the Rams? True, he did not throw a regular season pass. Instead, he laid the foundation for Warner to build on.

We all know how poor the play at the QB position has been for some time now. Annointing Green THE MAN when he was signed sent a signal to the rest of the players that things were changing at Rams park.

Then came the first minicamp, and the players got to meet Green and see what kind of a QB he is. Then they saw him on the field.... his accuracy, his poise, his leadership. And slowly, the players began to believe things were going to be different.

Then came the second minicamp. Then training camp. Then HUGE success with the first team offense in preseason.

As each pass was completed, the players became more excited about the possibilities of the coming season, and formed an attitude. Something that had not been seen in Rams park in St. Louis before. A WINNING ATTITUDE! Each successful drive with the first team O told the players had something special...and it all centered around Green.

It was a step-by-step process, and each was critical to the team evolving the winning attitude they carried into the season.

He may or may not be traded this offseason, but we simply cannot discount the impact Green had on the team, and specifically on the offense.

Certainly Martz played a big role, but Green was equally, and probably more, valuable in foring important to the formation of the attitudes that developed in training camp and preseason.

Without Green, it's very likely the Rams would not have had the same success. If Warner had been Number One from the beginning of minicamps, it's doubtful the team would have formed the same attitudes and foundation that it did during the highly critical period.

There's no arguing about whether Warner is a great QB.... I think his season was the single greatest ever by a QB (Marino may have thrown for more TDs twice, but he didn't get a ring... and that's the bottom line). But IMO he couldn't have done it without the foundation built by Trent Green... one step at a time.

Those guys were always capable of making the plays---they just didn't have the right attitudes and beliefs in place. And they can thank Trent Green for giving them those. So in my mind, Green earned his ring every bit as much as did all the players who made the plays.
