FREE AGENTS & THE CAP. The Rams are not in great cap shape when you consider Bruce, Warner and Carter loom on the horizon.

This is why they did not franchise Todd Lyght....saving it for the soon to be very very obscenely wealthy Kevin Carter...

The Rams are in real danger of losing Fred Miller if they are not able to wrap him up this weekend....Gruttadauia may leave by consent if they are confident in Ryan Tucker.

GREEN. Despite statements by Martz to the contrary I fully expect them to trade Trent Green. Toward the end of the season Jim Steiner and the Rams had a meeting and I am led to believe that a deal was struck to trade Green at that meeting.

The Rams come close to washing out the cap hit by saving on his salary and I believe the deal will be done.

VERMEIL'S RETIREMENT. When Vermeil came back it was to win a Super Bowl..he stated it at the time and like a lot of older coaches he had started thinking about his place in history and the lack of a ring.

He also quit the Eagles more primarily because a lot of his guys were aging and not producing anymore...he did not want to face cutting John Bunting and Wilbert Montgomery anymore than he wanted to consider cutting a Ram this year.

It all comes back somehow.

BUNTING. It was basically an issue where I don't think Martz wanted a pretender to the crown around watching him. Bunting wants to be a head coach and openly campaigned at one point this year to succeed Vermeil if he were to retire.

In addition Giunta and he did not get along at all in 1998, but did progress somewhat last year.

Bunting is better at motivation than x's  and o's. His ability to inspire the troops was very good, his understanding of the Rams defense was nowhere as complete as Peter's.

ATLANTA. The Falcons are not negotiating seriously with Chuck Smith. Coupled  with their curious maneuverings last year this speaks volumes as to why the Rams will not repeat the slide of the Falcons next year.....I thought the strength of the Falcons in 1998 was their defensive line and the combination of Jamal Anderson and Tony Martin....and we all know how good Dan Reeves is at personnel.

SUPERBOWL AFTERGLOW. I am so very very happy for Dick Vermeil. I am so very very happy for me. I am so very very happy for all of you too.

I have spent two small fortunes on Rams stuff since the Super Bowl....anyone else got the Wheaties box?
