I began life as a Rams fan.
Born in Ventura, my earliest memories areof the Blue and White. As a boy, I
used to write to the team. To this day I still have pictures of the 76 and 77 teams,
including independent pictures of Chuck Knox, Merlin Olsen, Dave Elmendorf and Harold
Jackson. I have a game room at home where I display these photos, along with
8X10's (all autographed) of Roman Gabriel, John Hadl, John
Cappeletti, Tom Mack, Jack Youngblood, and Eric Dickerson. Most recently I have
added a signed game day program from Kevin Carter (from the game in SF on 11/21/99)...and
a mini helmet signed by KC and Grant Wistrom (also signed during the last Rams/Niner
game). All of that is nice, but it does not qualify me as a die hard.....but I believe this does. When I was eight, my family moved from Ventura to Yreka, CA. Yreka is the last city in California (on I-5) before you enter Oregon. Living in Yreka, surrounded by 9r fans I never lost my way. In 1989 I moved to the Bay Area and started a annual trip to LA to see the Ram v. 9r game there and I also attended the game in SF. I have lived with the 3 Com abuse for the past 10 years. In 1997 I moved to Sydney Australia. During 97, I flew back to SF for the game. I left Sydney on Friday, arrived in SF on Friday, watched the game on Sunday, and was on a plane headed back to Sydney at 11:00 p.m. Sunday night. In 1998 I cracked and requested a transfer home. The only reason I stated for the transfer request was that I missed watching the Rams. The company complied, promoted me, and allowed me to move home. I arrived back in the US one day before the game at 3Com, and attended the game the next day. I realize there are fans from farther away, but I doubt any fans has traveled the number of total miles I did, all told, to attend a game! |
