Our huge success on kick-offs with Tony Horne is largely due to our "Flying Wedge".

We have 5 extremely talented blockers that just pave the way for Horne, who is special himself.

4 form the Flying Wedge. The two who are especially special are James Hodgins and Jeff Zgonina. What  power blocking.....while moving! They just push and destroy!

I believe Hodgins will someday be an All-Pro fullback, but that's another post. Certainly on kick-offs, he's All-Pro!

Zgonina is our strongest player but just a DL backup. Yet, on kickoff returns he's an All-Pro in my book.

The other two in the wedge are also good, though not quite like the former duo. These are Lorenzo Styles and Andy McCollum. P.S. I used to think...Andy McCollum???? Why in hell keep him? Changed my mind.

Think of it...these last two are backup players, contributing like real starters.

So, all 4 are reserves making us far-and-away the best return team in the NFL.

I give our coaches real credit for finding these guys special talents and using them in a group. Frank Gansz and Dick Vermeil deserve kudos for "making our special team special".

The 5th guy is amazing and that's London Fletcher. He is the lead blocker for Horne. He sets up just behind the Flying Wedge. And man can he block on the run. In fact, he gets two/three guys per return.

Sometimes, the return fakes towards the wedge and Fletcher leads Horne the other way. This works too because the defense really seeks the Flying Wedge.

FLYING WEDGE!!!!

Treat yourself...watch it. And watch a tape in slo mo.
