Way to go Kurt!!!!   What a season!!  The Zine's staff collectively tips it's hat to you!

Quarterback Kurt Warner completed his storybook 1999 NFL season on Wednesday, being voted the league's Most Valuable Player. Teammate Marshall Faulk finished tied for second in the voting.

Five months ago, quarterback Kurt Warner was an unknown backup for a Rams team coming off a 4-12 season.

Wednesday, he was named the Most Valuable Player of the National Football League.

The Associated Press announced that Warner was the overwhelming choice as the league's MVP. Teammate Marshall Faulk finished tied for second in balloting with Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning. A panel of 50 media members voted on the award.

"In the game of football, you can't do it all by yourself," Warner said after hearing that he had won the MVP award. "I think this team is a perfect example of that. Each game, we've had different guys step up. Obviously, Marshall would have been a great candidate for this award, too, so I accept this award as a team because this is something we've earned as a team."

Warner became only the second player -- Dan Marino was the first -- to throw for 40 touchdowns in a season, and he directed an offense that helped propel St. Louis to the best record in the NFC at 13-3.

Warner entered the season as the backup to free-agent addition Trent Green, a native of St. Louis who enjoyed success his first full season as the starter in Washington in 1998. But when Green's knee was seriously injured in a preseason game against San Diego, Warner was handed the offensive reins ... and ran with them.

In all, he completed 325 of 499 passes for 4,353 yards, 41 touchdowns and only 13 interceptions. He had challenged for Steve Young's best-ever quarterback rating for much of the season, but still finished at 109.2, pacing the league.

In all, Warner received 33 votes. Faulk -- only the second player in league history with both 1,000 yards rushing and receiving in the same season -- finished second with eight votes, as did Manning. Colts running back Edgerrin James received one.

The last -- and only other -- Rams player to win the award was quarterback Roman Gabriel in 1969.
