COMING TO TENNESSEE FOR THE GAME?
BY TITAN HELIOS
|
Tennessee Titans defensive end Jevon
Kearse (90) heads back to the huddle after a play against the Baltimore Ravens on Oct. 10,
1999 in Nashville, Tenn. Kearse, the Titans' top draft pick, leads the team with three
sacks through five games and is helping the team produce a better pass rush. (AP

I adopted the RAMS as my NFC favorite when they moved
to St Louis because my oldest daughter is a graduate of Washington University and is now
in her second year at Wash U Medical School.
The turnaround of the Rams is THE STORY in the NFL this year. It is uplifiting to
see a "No-name" come in at QB and lead a predicted losing team to an undefeated
record so far.
My best wishes for a pleasant, but not victorious, visit by Rams fans who come to
"the DELPH" (Adelphia Coliseum) on Halloween. You will like the Delph and
its natural grass playing surface.
GAME DAY ADVICE: Contact TITANS Official website for info on SHUTTLE BUS
service to the Delph. The SHUTTLES are the way to go as surface parking is reserved
on-site and parking on the neighborhood streets is not allowed to reduce game day traffic
impact on the East Bank. Round Trip on any Shuttle is just three bucks.
Restaurant recommendations: the off-beat 12th and Porter, or the traditional Stockyard.
"The District" downtown on the West Bank opposite the Delph has several nite
spots, including a Planet Hollywood, Nascar Cafe, and Wildhorse Saloon which has a live
radio show after the games.
THE GAME: The Titans are a pleasant surprise this year. They are finding ways to "win
Ugly" and we got a victory over division favorite Jaguars in their house.
Titan management made several moves in off-season that have produced victories, the most
significant being Neal O'Donnell as a back-up to Steve McNair. McNair could be back
by Oct 31, but what a game in which to attempt a return to action after back
surgery! My guess is NOD will start.
With many injuries in the D-Line, the pick-ups of Mike Jones (out now with knee) from St
Louis and Jason Fisk from the Vikes has allowed our defense to perform well enough to win.
Rookies JEVON "the FREAK" KEARSE and John THORNTON have made significant
contributions, especially Kearse. Rams should be prepared to double-team Kearse or
he will be a most disruptive force in your backfield.
We finally got the running game going vs the Saints. (The victory in the Big Easy
was especially sweet with Thigpen and all-pro safety Blaine Bishop unable to play.)
Previously we have been facing 8-9 defenders in the box, teams committed to stopping the
run, but this year O-Co-ordinator Les Steckel has found that the forward pass is legal in
the NFL, and our healthy receivers have responded.
But we have not yet put together a complete offensive game. Halloween would be a most
opportune time to do that.
The bye week was much needed by the TITANS. We have not had one game, including preseason,
when all the projected starters were on the field. We will need everyone healthy to
have a chance to defeat the RAMS.
But if you do not have us down by more than two TDs in the fourth quarter, I would advise
you not to leave the Delph early. The TITANS have proven they WILL stage a comeback
offensively and the Defense has made the stops necessary to give the offense a chance.
Punter Hentrich has been outstanding in denying teams likely field position with 50+ yard
kicks.
M Faulk was a stupendous pick-up for the RAMS, but I hope the Titans can extend their
streak of 11 games of not allowing a 100 yard rusher against us.
Looking forward to a tremendous NFL contest with no injuries.
Good luck the rest of the season except on Halloween! |
