In close-to-chronological order, here are twenty-one reasons why yesterday was a GREAT day in  the "City by the Bay" for this San Francisco Rams fan...

(1) Having the concierge in front of a big SF hotel on Union Square yell, "Hey---we know you guys  are going to win---just try not to win by more than about three points, OK?" as he saw me walking by wearing my Rams shirt on my way to meet Zooey.

(2) Seeing a large Rams flag flying in the Candlestick parking lot over a gathering of fans that was *easily* the loudest and most excited of all of the tailgaters at the park.

(3) Meeting RampageY2K, ValleyRam, RamFan, GRITS, Ram4Life, and ReddingRam (TWright32) from the board in person---ALL classy, friendly and fun guys.

(4) Hearing RampageY2K talk about meeting several Rams players at the hotel the night before. And then talking with him about the possibility of meeting up at the Super Bowl.

(5) Seeing several *female* Rams fans at the game and amongst our tailgating group. If there's one thing rarer than a Rams fan, it's a female Rams fan!

(6) Drinking beer and watching Also Ram Fan grill enough meat to feed a dinosaur---and then have to take most of it home because most people were too busy running around hootin' and hollerin' to eat it...

(7) Having some of the Herd members suggest we take a picture with just posters from the board,  and then as soon as we lined up, having a dozen other random cheering Rams fans run up to get in the picture.

(8) Seeing Zooey---mild-mannered, intellectual Zooey!--dancing wildly and completely *losing* it with excitement at the game---so much so that the grumpy old-time Niner fan in front of him kept giving him dirty looks and trying to quiet him down.

(9) Hearing the smug, classless remarks of a bitter gang of nearby Niner fans just seconds before Terrell Owens was stripped of the ball.

(10) Watching those same Niner fans turn on each other in frustration later in the game as they argued over which of their quarterbacks was more pathetic.

(11) Hearing "the fat man *finally* sing"---Madden acknowledging on air that "You have to say" that the Rams are *definitely* for real in a big way.

(12) Seeing the mass exodus of 49er "Faithful" from the stadium starting in the THIRD quarter---when the Niners were only down by TWO scores. "Faithful" indeed...

(13) Seeing the Rams sign that said "NFL Math: 13 + 80 = 7" that we had all been checking out at our pregame party make it onto TV.

(14) Having Kurt Warner, Kevin Carter, DV, Ron Carpenter, Fletch, Grant Wistrom, and yes---even Ike---acknowledge us fans hanging over the rails at the 50 yard line in the game's final minutes. I will remember DV's thumbs up, Carter's big grin, Wistrom's wink and Ike's little dance for a LONG time.

(15) Having Marshall Faulk turn and wave as he walked into the locker room when I shouted "Hey Marshall---see you at marshallfaulk.com!"

(16) Getting several field shot photographs---with coordinator notes ---taken from the Rams' booth as souvenirs from a Rams employee who gave them out to some of us rabid fans who were congregating near the field after the game.

(17) Hearing the sad song of the hopelessly despondent: a tiny lone pack of lingering 49er fans in the parking lot after the game trying unsuccessfully to taunt the huge number of Rams fans still celebrating with some sad, silly little cheer about "We have five rings and you don't, nyah nyah...!"--- and being completely IGNORED.

(18) Throwing long passes back and forth with GRITS in the parking lot long after the game was  over as it got dark and  the full moon came up over the bay.

 (19) Leaving the park after the game with Also Ram Fan and a still "exuberant" Zooey ;)---listening to the Bay Area sports talk shows absolutely *burying* the Niners and acknowledging the Rams as the new powerhouse.

(20) Going to Candlestick for the first time in TEN YEARS---since the Rams lost 30-3 in the NFC Championship---and  experiencing the Rams redemption *in person*.  My, how things have changed...

And finally.....going down onto the field after the game, after the stadium had cleared out, and  sitting on the Rams bench and soaking in all that had just happened to make this one of the greatest days of my life as a Rams fan.

Thanks to all involved.

We'll *have* to do that again sometime...!
