San Francisco 49ers running back Lawrence Phillips bows his head in a moment of silence for football player Walter Payton before the 49ers game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, in San Francisco. Phillips was suspended by the 49ers for his continuing insubordination.

GOING TO THE GAME? Join us in the parking lot for some pregame celebrating...

It's looking like the biggest Ram fan gathering is going to be on the east side of the parking lot at Candlestick.

So that's EAST side of  the parking lot, just NORTH of the tower, a gathering of Ram fans near a large Rams flag...

Or just look for the group of fans that appears to be *looking forward* to the game! ;)

So, keep your eye out for other Ram fans...

I promise you we will stand out!

Hope to see you there!

49ER DECLINE. I can tell you this: The 49ers are a WHIPPED team emotionally. They are beaten down and utterly distraught - from the coaches down to the players. This comes across loud and clear in recent interviews.

I remember when the Rams were losing back in LA---the Southern California press was *scathing*.  But that is nothing compared to the Bay Area press in the exalted Niner's fall...

A few headlines from yesterday's evening paper - ALL in the *same* edition:

* "49ers Descent Into Badness"

* "The Same as Bengals, Just Without Stripes"

* "Vivisected by Saints, SF Just Gets Worse and Worse"

There's more. last night [Nov 15] on the 10 o'clock news---they had a FEATURE story on how bad the Niners now are. Not during the sports, mind you--- but a FEATURE story!

Also, a local sports talk show host last night said,  "Right now, you certainly have to say that the 49ers  are the *worst* team in the league."

And the whining isn't limited to the fans and the media. It runs rampant among the players as well. The formally smug blockhead Ken Norton Jr. had this to say BEFORE this weekend's embarassing loss to the Saints:

* (In a bitter, sniping voice) "The question isn't whether we have to rebuild or not, the question is whether you people---the fans and the media---have the patience for us to rebuild. I mean, we lose two in a row, and suddenly there are more Pittsburgh fans than 49er fans in our  stadium!!"

(?!??!)

Folks, I ain't making this stuff up.

There is *no* fight left in this team. If we lose Sunday it is ABSOLUTELY because we beat ourselves.

YOUNG & RICE TO RETIRE. There is no "if." Count on it. Rice is eager to get the hell out of there with his legend intact and Steve is realizing that there is NO REASON for him to ever step on the field again.

Last night on TV, Bill Walsh said that Steve Young will never play again. He finally flat-out said it.

Bet the farm---you have seen the last of both Rice and Young as players when this season is over.
