How do I
feel about the media dissing the Rams relentlessly? Do Rams fans have chips on our
shoulders about bad press....?.
YEAH -- SO?!!???!?!?
(kidding) -:)
Actually, I personally don't have a complex over it or anything. I live in the Bay area
and I don't worry too much about the local media's lack of respect for the Rams.
As far as "standing tall and proud," I've been doing THAT in SF sports bars for
YEARS... so much so that I'm known in a few places as "The Rams guy." I s'pose
it helps that I'm 6'7". -:).
So I'm just waiting that glorious time when the local writers, radio show hosts, etc. have
NO choice but to acknowledge that the Rams deserve respect. And with the Niners crumbling
like an overcooked brownie, that time is fast approaching...
but I DO get tired of the endless "humorous" bashing for three reasons---
First, most of the cheap shots are sooooo tired---remarks that we've all heard a thousand
times before.
If a sportswriter told the same "chicken crossing the road" joke over and over,
I'd say he was an uninspired writer, too. (You've heard that joke before, right?)
Secondly, I think the amount of blatant misinformation and incorrect facts that so often
go along with these cheap shots is pathetic.
In almost every case, the writer conveniently leaves something out, or fudges actual
numbers, etc., just to lend extra credence to his/her point. This, to me, is just shoddy
journalism.
It's a little bit like tabloid reporting---ignoring facts to juice up a story.
Finally, while I agree that the Rams are an easy target for jokes--- and need to EARN
respect---sometimes it goes beyond slamming them, into the realm of *ignoring* them or
seemingly forgetting about them completely!
No biggie---but some of us are a little tired of it.....
