Whichever 49er coined the
term "Same Old Sorry A** Rams," as much as it pains most of us to admit,
he was right. And the team has did nothing to change that for most of the years following.
Well, now I believe... no, I am convinced, that he, the 9ers, and the rest of the league
are going to discover that this is not the team they are accustomed to seeing. And they
will not like what they see. Not one little bit. So I don't think the Rams will come out flat against Cincy. This team is having way too much fun to come out flat. In fact, I believe they can't wait once a game is finished to get to the next game. They've never experienced this at the NFL level before, and darn it all, it's just so much fun that you can't wipe the smiles from their faces. Martz even said he's never had so much fun in his life, and I have to believe the players feel exactly the same way. It used to be, when the Rams were good in the 70s and 80s, that I would get a feeling before a big game. I knew the Rams were goingto win. And these were in games that logic said they probably would not win. Playing the Steelers in 1978 in the rain on a Saturday night game late in the season; a 49er Monday night game late in 1985 when SF had closed a four game deficit in the standings o merely one; Chicago in 1986 on a Monday night when Lansford hit a long game winning field goal at the end. There were other games, but these stand out in my memory. Somehow I just knew they were going to come through. Before the Trent Green injury, I had that same feeling about this entire season. It is a feeling I have not experienced in a very loooooonnnnnnggg time. It was nice to have it back. I was confident, as were most of us. Then Green went down and things were dark. But not for long. Warner is proving to be the QB we have all been praying for for like, forever. Maybe he's the second coming of Everett, only this time it will have a happy ending. The fact is we have not seen this type of QB play from the Rams in a great while. And I have that feeling back, and I just KNOW that good things are ahead. SOSAR is not dead yet, but he IS on life support. The interesting tests the Rams face in the next three weeks will determine whether he gets off life support or the Rams pull the plug once and for all. Bet on the latter. |
