1. [ANONYMOUS 9ERFAN, ed. by zn] All I have heard this week is that the 49ers will lose again to the Rams, the secondary is still unsettled, the offense is not producing, and no QB consistency. I don't care what no one say about the 49ers because they will get better. Tomorrow will be big for two players: CB's Ramos McDonald and Monty Montgomery. The CB position as been a ? all season, but think this is where all that changes

2. 316:  Interesting premise that all a team having problems stopping anyone's passing game has to do is to bring in two new corners that no one has film on. Doesn't matter if they can actually play or not. . . just so no one's seen 'em.

Revolutionary idea. Quite striking.

You may have a future in the York ownership group, my man. Using logic like that, you'll fit in perfectly.

3. PHANTMJOKR. Two years don't make a trend but three do...

In predicting the fall of this franchise there were three things that stuck out.

) A four year slide in points allowed. The D wasn't getting better but continually getting worse...

2) That the total points margin dropped over 3 of those four years. Only a heroic effort by the offense kept that from sinking for the four years too...

3) That the above was tied to yearly battles with the salary cap when a lot of good a proven players were turned over for riskier ones...

They haven't drafted all that well either.

They are projected quite a bit over the cap next year with a losing record likely looming...Major rebuild. They've got YEARS of work to do. I'd say at best three years of work to regain the playoffs and more to be again a championship contender and that's on the good and high speed track...

of course they laughed at my predictions!

4. 316: My old friend, PJ . . . Good to hear from you again, dude.

I admit I didn't think the fall off  for SF would be this  steep, this quick. I knew full well about the bad drafts and awful personnel moves . . . and knew that they were one hit away from the Jeff  Garcia era at QB. I actually liked the acquisition of Charlie Garner at tailback, but (like all Ram  fans), laughed up my sleeve at the signing of L.P. The offensive line has been a joke for years, and trading Gogan was a huge error. The Jamie Brown thing was another marvelous blunder by the front office. Time and injury and frustration have gotten the best of Rice, who is the best receiver in NFL history . . . no doubt. There's something really missing from Stokes' makeup . . . and, seemingly on  the verge of superstardom last season, Owens has moved back to that prospect/suspect area this year.

The secondary, always a weak-spot, was hidden for years by a good pass rush from guys like Doleman, Barker and a healthy Bryant Young. The lack of pressure off the edges, or a push up the middle by Young, has put those really poor corners in hell's kitchen now. The linebackers are really average also. Norton has nothing left. Tubbs (a guy I always liked) is lost in this scheme, and probably overrated. Woodall had his 15 minutes as a complimentary OLB with a strong end in front of him . . .and is now vulnurable.

And now . . . the losing is affecting the 49er franchise in the same way it affected the Rams for years. Like an illness surging through the entire franchise . . . seemingly unstoppable.
