If you're coming to St. Louis for the Giants and Bears games, here are some recommendations on where to eat. My recommendations are all within the downtown, Hill, Central West End, and Clayton areas, and mainly The Hill.

DOWNTOWN.
Tony's---a four star restaurant, although they took one away five years ago. Great food, obsequious service, a dining experience plus, and you can't rush through it.

Kemoll's---a varied  menu, mainly Italian. Nice setting. Not as ritzy as Tony's, but still special, and not as pricey, but then, nothing is.

Charlie Gitto's---good. More blue collar Italian, but still special.

The places on the riverfront are more for tourists. I can't think of one I'd make a special trip for.

Dierdorf and Hart's---Steak and pretty good from what I've heard.

Mike Shannon's---Seafood and steak. Celebrity schtick.

Cafe de France---Best French restaurant in town. Can't rush through it, however.

THE HILL.
Ethnic Italian. A dozen good restaurants. Not far by cab if you're downtown. My favorites:

Cunetto's---pasta supreme. Large servings. Arguably the best pasta in town.

Giovanni's on the hill---Tuxedo Italian and special.

Rigazzi's Zia's, Charlie Gitto's (again), &  Mama Campisi's. All of these are great, very casual.

Right on the edge of the Hill is my favorite, Brazie's, on Hampton. They use garlic like master chefs that they are.

Also, on Hampton a little farther south is Gino's. Also good

Bevo Mill - great German atmosphere and food.

If you staying down town take a cab to the Hill. You'll never find Riggazi's if you don't. Riggazzi and Cunetto's are my favorite Italian eateries. Remember folks, toasted raviolle started in St. Louis.
(Give em the Horn)

CENTRAL WEST END
My only recommendation, and others should pitch in for this area, is Balaban's. Really good menu, great atmosphere.

CLAYTON AND A LITTLE FARTHER WEST.
Cardwell's in Clayton. Nice club-like environment. Great food.

Schneithorst's----Clayton Road and Lindbergh. Some German specialties and great Germanic atmosphere.

A bit farther on Lindbergh is Kansas City Masterpiece Barbeque. Name speaks for itself

Seafood? Bristol's, but then you're really in west/central county.

Annie Gunn's in Chesterfield Valley---Worth the trip west on hwy 40. Destroyed by the Great 1993 flood. Rebuilt even bigger and better and business really took off. (MJR)

THE LOOP & UNIVERSITY CITY (by MJR & Also Ram Fan) For those non-St.Louisans, the Loop is where the early 1900's trolley car (World Fair in St. Louis 1904) came out from downtown via Forest Park  (the Fair)  and turned around. U-City (the loop area) is one of the more eclectic areas of the city.

Blueberry Hill can be nice if you like rock&roll nostalgia along good burgers and beer.

O'Connell's also has great fresh burgers, rare roast beef  sandwiches, fried mushrooms, etc. and is not too far from The Hill.

LACLEDE'S LANDING (By XMann)
If you want to have a good time before kickoff and be within walking distance of the dome, here are some fun bars/restaurants down on Lacledes Landing (the riverfront area) about a block or 2 from the dome. The landing is the best place I have found to hang around before game time there are even some more places to eat and drink before our weekly victory in the area.

Morgan Street Brewery---it has its own microbrewery and has a good sized crowd every Sunday morning.

Planet Hollywood---Howard Balzar and  KFNS broadcast crew are there after the games.

ShowMe's---Is similar to Hooters and always has big crowds and hot chicken wings before kickoff.

Hard Rock at the station too

MISCELLANEOUS (OkieRam)
Hard Rock Cafe in the Union Station train shed. The Station also has a large food court with "mall-fare" food. Nice place, though, and you have many shops with lots of Rams stuff all in one location.

If you are at a hotel outside the downtown area, I would suggest Imo's Pizza. It is called "St.Louis style", and it is very unique. It is a thin-crust pizza that uses some special kind of cheese and spices. It's not "mind-blowing", but I love the stuff and miss it greatly living in Oklahoma. Imo's is a chain all over the STL area.

SOME FINAL OBSERVATIONS  (JimG)
At the game---Try to mooch a bratwurst off some of the tailgaters. There are some great ones out there. My corner grocery store, Freddy's in Webster Groves, makes some great bratwurst, but all bw's have to be barbequed to be really good, or cooked a long time in beer, or both. Seconded on toasted ravioli. Particular to St. Louis, but best in an Italian restaurant so you don't end up with the frozen for an ice age stuff.

Wherever you eat, you'll have good food because this is St. Louis, the home of the Western Division Champions. Everything tastes good when you're thinking of that. Also, enjoy a good dose of Mid-western hospitality, but if you don't want to blow your weekend money, stay off the casinos. (IMO, we've got a boatload of them. One is too many for me, but to those who like, enjoy. Check out Traveler's Aid before you leave the Airport so you'll know where to find it when you leave.)
