THE RAMS-

* My game ball should go to the entire defense this week. I thought that Carter and Wistrom were their usual overwhelming selves and that the linebackers as a unit played superbly.

* Yo Kurt get the ball and the hands up higher so you can get an even quicker release.

* Marshall Faulk would make a great coach some day but will most likely go into business and make even more money.

* Fred Miller  is going to get a 4 year offer right after the end of the season I hear..despite the Titan game he is well thought of by the team.

THE LEAGUE-

* The demise of the 49er's can be traced to a decision years ago by Debartolo and Policy to cut the scouting department to save some money and to concentrate on free agency. They have drafted  dreadfully for what now seems like an eternity.

*  Randall Cunningham is a good bet to be the next QB of the Saints. The next head coach of the Saints...Marty Schottenheimer.

* I thought the Panthers victory today gave substance to my thoughts last week that they are much improved and Seifert has somehow found a way to get focus to a bunch of chronic quitters. He really was used badly in the Bay when they decided it was time for the kid Mariucci to come and I could not be happier for him...as long as he doesn't beat my team that is.

* The team in the AFC  that I  really fear and think is going to be a force in the long term is not the Jags but the Colts....

THE MEDIA-

* PFW's editor Hub Arkush has dissed the Rams and Vermeil at every turn. He consistently picks against them week after week...the only editor to pick the 49ers this week and he picked the Panthers to cover last week. You could go broke following his lead.

* I am a long time fan and appreciator of John Madden, but have also maintained for about 5 years that he has lost touch with the game and is at best hollow now as an announcer. He is so wrong and out of touch in his comments about Vermeil. In fact Dick did change his approach and attitudes about work outs and practice. It  was the dawning realization that the players in the 90's are already in shape and don't need to sweat it out in training camp that began the transformation... not a stubborn intransigence toward practice  hours that started the turn around.
